No, they do not need to be translated for the interview in Bangkok for K-1. However, you will need to get it translated for Adjustment of Status, so it's easier and cheaper to get it done in Thailand.

Let me give you some advice on the birth certificate as well. Make sure it is an official birth certificate. The U.S. embassy (Dept. of State) is pretty lenient on what they will accept as a birth certificate. However when you go to file Adjustment of status to get the green card in the U.S. you will file that with USCIS (Dept. of Homeland Security) Their rules are much stricter for some reason. I know of at least 3 people that went through major headaches with this. The embassy accepted whatever proof of birth they had at the interview, but then it was not accepted for Adjustment of Status. Their relatives had to go to the Amphur where they were born etc. etc.

My advice, get it done there for the Adjustment of Status here.

There is no need NOR a requirement to use any translator service. Anyone competent in both languages can do the translation.

Below is the exact format from USCIS which has been accepted many times by the embassy in BKK and else where. Notice the " certification " is simply the document you see here.

If the embassy recomends a service its simply an attempt to stop the people that attempt to extort victims by standing across the street from the embassy. They offer a wide varity of services? to people that are looking for assistance. Most of it is over priced and worthless.

As some of the others have stated you will need the birth certificate translated into English for the Adjustment of Status here in the United States. It would be wise to have a couple of extra copies translated there before you come. However, there are translations services here in the United States that you can use. That is what I did and we had no problem. I think it cost $30.00.
