Timeline

A.Before enter the interview hall

It is 7:15 AM on my appointment letter; I took my daughter downstairs to the next building at 7:30am. When we arrive there it just start to let people in.

There are 6 lines, 3 for immigration, 3 for other. Asked the guard which one is for 7:15, he said all those 3 lines on the left are. So we choose the 3rd one the shortest one.

They allow a case (a person or a family) go into the building in every line each time, so even it seems we were almost the latest one in the lines, but we were not the latest ones into the building. The guard checks everybody’s passport and appointment letter. He gave me 2 blue cards (He has green ones and finished, then start gave blue ones) for me and my daughter.

There is elevator and moving staircase towards the 4th floor. Then an other guard take back the cards, and we are on the way to the 5th, a guard sits there check everybody’s passport again. Then we are on the moving staircase to 5th floor, there area 2 lines for immigration visa and non immigration. A guard came and let us hands in everybody’s appointment letter.

Before enter the interview hall, security check, like at airport, no food and drinks. All through away, take out all electric things: cell phone, mp3, electric dictionary etc, all keys into bags, and take off shoes, waistband all put onto the deferent belt to go through the x-ray. So it is a little chaotic. We didn’t take any food drink, no cell, and no waistband, so very fast, just put bag and shoes through the machine. A guard even blessed the lady before me good luck for her interview after checking her bag, maybe I also need bless from the guard, but nobody said that to me. Papa bear and I prayed and what ever result it will be we will accept it, God knows what we really need and will make the best arrangement for us.

B. In the interview hall

Then we entered the interview hall, sit and wait. The seats is not enough for so many people, some stand around.

Start to call name and hand in the medicinal exam package. After it you will get a number, it is for the following finger print and interview. But the number just a number for to call you, it is not the sequence.

So the finger printing maybe number 1060 is a lot early than 1001, and for the interview, maybe after 1112, number 1045 still not be interviewed. It is just a number of your case. The broadcast in both languages, for Cantonese they call your name or number in Cantonese, for people from other parts of china. They speak mandarin, sometime it even adds your place before your name, such as: shanghai xxx go to no. xx window, so if you know Cantonese you just listen to mandarin would be fine. First I worried about loose my name or number, then I find I don’t need worry about it.

We are waiting there so many people there, it start finger printing, then a lady announced stop everything, stand up , rise your right hand and start juration in both mandarin and Cantonese. After that everything continue, still call name to hand in medical exam package, to finger print and after a while, interview start.

Finally most of the windows became interview window, and only left no.12 for hand in medical exam package, and no. 18 for finger printing.

Finally it is calling my name, and I took my daughter went to no. 12. the Chinese guy is very nice, he let me open the 2 packages, and hand in, he let me sign on ds-230 part 2 for me and my daughter, didn’t ask me any question, I thought it is a good start, he didn’t ask me any question. Usually they ask some question and make a mark on your case at this step. And it maybe concerning your interview.

Then he let me go to an other window to get a number, the window is a interview window, a man sits there interviewing a family there, he let me to the next window and give me my number no.1112.

Came back to my seats. And wait again.

The toilet at the right hand, there are 2 women’s and 2 men’s; drinking water machine at the left turn, in the no immigration hall. . After we get water, there are no cups. So long waiting, kids start to play in the hall, running and roughhouse, still a lot stand no sets.

It is said husbands cannot company for interview except for some very special days such as last Christmas, but I see at least 3 white and 1 yellow husbands there, I asked one lady how can she come in with her husband, she told me they are short of a document, so the guards let him in.

It is my turn for finger print. It not easy for me to print my finger, the man is very patient; he gave me a tissue, and let me clean my finger and the machine, tried again and again both left and right first finger. Finally it is fine.

Wait again. My daughter and I went to toilet again and again, and we are hungry, some people gone and there are start empty seats. Daughter said she want go for lunch, won’t wait for interview.

Finally it is my turn while my daughter in toilet: No 1112 go to no.25 window.

I have whole bag stuff for my interview; I took my bag and the x-ray photo to the window. Put some files on the sill, and lay the bag on floor. She is a very pretty white girl, later they said she is a new comer. She is very careful.

Something wrong with her mike, almost every question I have to ask her repeat again, and she adjusted the mike again and again. So she kept read and check information from her computer and adjusted her mike during the whole interview process. If she speaks a little farther from the mike then I cannot hear anything at all. She is very patient, too, and sometime she speaks one or two Chinese words.

P.S. I use Jame's short cut at NVC to save 2-3 months during NVC process. Thank you every body on visa journey, especially thanks to aussiewench.

it seems I asked a lot of simple and stupid questions here, but every time I got very patient reply. The whole process took me 385 days, it is very fast among Chinese applicants, usually it takes at least 18 months. Thanks you all again.
