So while doing my due dilagence and prepping the NVC packets, I realized that along with the husbands NZ Police Authorization Form (they dont do straight Police Certificates), the husband has lived in Australia and Canada.

Would it be safe to get those anyway?

What are the processing times for those countries, anyone have experience?

Depends where you are. See this thread here: http://www.visajourney.com/forums/topic/396450-australian-federal-police-check/

Thanks! The only thing Im worried about is him being in NZ, Im not sure theyll fingerprint him. Ill have to do more research but it seems the NZ Police dont handle things like that (you just give the consulate an authorization form for your name).

Australia seems straight forward.

Looks like Canada is going to be problematic!

I was living in NZ when I got my police clearance for Canada. There is a retired police man who does fingerprints for visas at the Auckland Central Police Station a few days a week. IF he calls them and asks for fingerprints for immigration purposes, they will make him an appointment. When I got mine, they did them in ink, I sent those to an agency in Canada, who got the clearance on my behalf. I'll see if I can find the address for them for you.

I can explain it to you. But I can't understand it for you.

Oh awesome! Hes in Auckland, so that will be perfect.

I was reading about Canada's procedure. Do you just have the info written on the fingerprint card? Or should he include a letter with all the info they requested? They dont seem to have a form to fill out.

Then ask him to call the Auckland central police station, and make an appointment. From memory, it didn't take long to get one. They give you the fingerprints, all printed on a form/card for immigration purposes, and the chap that does them fills in all the blank bits. He needs to have his ID with him when he goes. I took my passport, along with the usual drivers license. That form is the bit you send to Canada.

Here is a link you can check out, I cannot recall if this is the exact one I used, but it was back in 2009, and I've slept since then ;)

http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cr-cj/fing-empr2-eng.htm

There is an email link on that page as well so you can ask any questions. Back then they said it might take 3 months for a clearance, but I got it way less than that. They will send the clearance to him, tell him to make sure he asks for that in the letter he sends to Canada with the other things they want. Then once he gets it back, he can include it with the packet he sends back to the Consulate in Auckland. Good luck!

Ok so I confirmed his time living in Canada. It was 8 months. Does he still need a police certificate from there? Or is it just for those over a year?

Just read:

"Police Certificate is required for any places which beneficiary has lived longer than twelve (12) months in any other country other than country of citizenship, after age of 16."

Thats my answer. Just need the NZ authorization form and the Aussie PC. Yay!

Arg.. new problem. Apparently the Auckland Central fingerprint dept (im guessing) is CLOSED FOR A MONTH for holidays. Opens Jan 13th again. Say wahhhhh!

So now my issue is.. I think fingerprints are needed for the Aussie PC. Im not sure if theres any alternative short of him flying to Australia to do this one thing, if they haven't closed for a ridiculously long time too.
