About a year ago I co-sponsored my friend's wife when he brought her to the US from Russia. She currently has conditional permanent resident status. Now it looks like next year I'll be sponsoring my future husband for a CR-1. I make well above the income requirement, but will I have anything to worry about?

I don't know much but what I can say is if you were a cosponsor for anyone and they (the petitioned) haven't fulfilled certain terms of the affidavit of support (became a citizen, abandoned their greencard or died) then the sponsor and cosponsor is still under contract with the government.

Since the wife has not satisfied any of the criteria that makes the AOS null & void, when you sponsor your fiance or husband, your family size must include the wife when calculating the income required by you. So if it's just you and your fiance then the household size is 3.

Yeah, I'm ok as far as income for household size, I'm just hoping I don't get looked at askance/receive extra scrutiny for having co-sponsored someone previously. I know it would be a flag if I had previously tried to sponsor a different spouse for myself, but hopefully since that isn't the case it won't matter. It's probably not something people encounter too often so it's tough knowing what to expect. Guess I'll have to wait and see! :)

The only thing that matters is that you make above the poverty guideline for a household of 3. You are a very brave woman for co-sponsoring your friend's wife.

As you are comfortably above the poverty guidelines, you have nothing to worry about.

Follow-up question now that paperwork is actually underway: for question D2 on the I-130, does an affidavit of support count as a petition? My instinct is to think not, but I'm taking no chances!

I don;t know the exact wording of the questions on the I-130 but no, an affadavit of support is not a petition, it is just one of the many forms within one.

I dont think so as long as you can support, you, any children you may have, your friends wife, and your future husband and any kids he may have at 125% of the poverty level for a household of that size.

Just a little add-on to your question,

While it might not be asked for at the time of interview, always show up prepared. So make sure your husband is aware at the time of his interview in case it comes up.

Good luck on your future journey :)
