Well, Perhaps a little history first?...

I am a permanent resident (green card holder) was convicted of a felony and was incarcerated from 1999-2002. During that time, My criminal appeal was pending and therefore ICE werent able to Process the removal procedings against me. Matter of fact, My appeal were still on-going when I was released. Due to that...Instead of going into immigration custody, I was paroled to the street in 2002.

Fast forward a few years to 2009 when my grandmother in Canada passed away and I needed to attend her funeral. Problem was that I needed to renew my green card and I was afraid that it wouldnt go through, since now that my criminal appeal is over. To my surprised...It got sucessfully renewed and I was able to travel to Canada.

When I got home...I found out the I could check up the status of my case by calling into USCIS with my A#(DUH, I know...). From what I found out, The deportation proceedings against me were terminated back in 2002, a month before my release.

Also found out recently that US-Vietnam Repatriation aggreement was passed in 2008. Stating that they are only able to deport Vietnamese nationals that arrived after 1995 ( I arrived in 1984).http://www.ice.gov/news/releases/0801/080122washington.htm

Here's the question: Will I be able to travel back to Vietnam for vacationing and be able to return without incident/problems? Ex: Green card revoked, denied entry, Immigration detainment, ect.

Ps- Just found this forum and I learned a ton from my short time on here, so far. Great stuff guys!

If you successfully renewed your greencard AFTER all the criminal stuff was done, you are in the clear for travelling to Canada, Vietnam or wherever.

I should have and could've BEFORE I was convicted of that felony. From my understanding, It's now not possible after a person had a felony conviction on their record.

Still have a VN passport? There may be entry issues at the VN end...

Really? ...I think I got all the proper paper work from the travel agency. They gave me a travel visa and I was told that Im ready to go. Why do you think that I may encounter problems entering?

I dont have a vietnamese passport. But, I was told by many people that I wouldnt need one....All I need is a Visa and Green card. Actually, my sister went back to VN for vacationing a few years ago and she was only a green card holder as well.
