POE on K1 Visa with mother who's on the VWP

Hi all,

I got my fiancé visa approved last week, and I am currently planning my entry to the U.S. Obviously, I will get married, and my mom would like to attend. Since she hardly speaks English and hasn't been on a plane in decades, we have been thinking about her traveling with me (so I would enter on the K1 visa and she on the Visa Waiver Program).

My question is as follows: The only binding ties to Germany she would have is the return ticket, her apartment's lease agreement, possibly a letter stating that she has to take care of my sick grandma. My mom is retired and divorced, no other children than me. Do you guys think this might be a problem? She has no intent of staying, and I would think it is normal that a mother wants to attend her daughter's wedding...

Also, if she does get sent back, do you think that would have any negative impact on my own K1 visa?

I wouldn't worry about it. Have her bring as much information as possible and, as always, do not volunteer information.

Simple:

CBP: What's the purpose of your trip, mom?

Mom: <INSERT HUGE SMILE FROM PROUD MOMMA> To attend my daughter's wedding, of course < CONTINUE SHOWING HUGE PROUD MOMMA SMILE>

PS: I was also wondering if we can go up to the Immigration Officer together when we are on different visas? Or should we stand in separate lines?

You should be able to go together on the same line
