hi everyone.

Im not at the AOS stage yet but my grandma and a family friend are going to help me co sponsor my husband to the united states, my question is, can i still live in my moms house which has 4 people including me, but 5 adding my husband we plan on living here when he comes, but would my grandma and the family friend have to make the amount for us five people in my moms house, plus themselves? a total of 7 people? They wouldnt be supporting my mom and my brother and sister, im just living here if that makes sense, or would it be better to change my address to her house which only has two people herself and the family friend? so they would only have to make the 125% for the 4 of us?

i guess my question is

would my grandma and the family friend have to make enough to support 7 people due to me living in a house with 3 other people, since she lives in a different house?

Im not sure how to make this sound like im not an idiot, but im not sure how to word it..

Also would i have to do the I-864 and would my grandma and family friend have to do the I-864A or how would that work?

You do an I-864, grandma also does an I-864. Grandma only has to show she can support her household plus the immigrant. So if it is just her then it is two people.

You can;t have two people sponsor one person. You have to choose either the grandma or the friend to sponsor your husband.

You can only do the I-864a if you were going to be combining incomes in one household, and that can't be grandma and friend.

Correct. You'll also want to carefully consider who is the best choice for sponsor. Grandmothers of adults, tend to be "elderly". Elderly sponsors are often not a good choice for sponsor as it is still a judgment call and the more elderly the sponsor, the less likely they'll actually be around to fulfill any of the sponsor obligations.

Somebody told me (wont say who) that i could have two sponsors?

I forgot to ask, my grandma also gets social security every month, is that classified of income for this particular case?

Work income + social security? Is there anyway i can add that to the I-864 form? Or do i just add it with the actual irs income? (or does that already add it into the IRS? I don't know whats why im asking sorry..)

Watch out for "somebody told me". Often, somebody doesn't know what they're talking about.

Add the non-taxable portion of the SS income to the income on grandma's 1040 line 22, when calculating "current income". If grandma's income is sufficient you don't need a second sponsor. If you do need a second sponsor, it would have to be an actual household member of grandma, who is combining income with grandma. Again, if either sponsor qualifies, I would go with the younger one, if possible.

The only way to have two co-sponsors is if:

a) they live together, such as husband and wife or parent and dependant, but working, child.

b) if you have two immigrants- say, you have a child immigrating with you- then the child could have a different co-sponsor from you.

But they may have meant and did not explain it correctly is that yes you can have two co-sponsors in the event it was grandma and grandpa that file a joint return combining their income in one household. But not two separate people in two different households, and even then those combining incomes have to be relatives(i.e sibling, parent, child, or spouse living in same household) or a relative or other person that the sponsor lawfully claimed on most resent tax returns(this is stated in instructions for I-864a).

Please don't take what has been posted as anyone being rude, as I really don't think that was anyone's intentions. Everyone is just stating information they know from experience or researching and reading. The point about being careful about what people tell you is dead on regardless of who it comes from, make sure you check it out first. Example my sister mind you told me some information about this process as she has been successfully through it, based on her interpretation of a form and after further research I found she was incorrect. As for the comments about elderly sponsors, I think what they are trying to convey is that someone that is "older"(being late 70's or 80's) maybe perceived as not being able to maintain the responsibility of a co-sponsor as they will be this for up to 10 yrs. So the NVC or Embassy "could"(not that they will) see this as a problem, and in the event that you had another person to use as a co-sponsor it may be better. Since what your grandmothers age range is only you know the information was given as something to consider not an insult IMHO. So what ever decision you make best of luck to you!

Read the I-864 instructions and confirm for yourself, that those who "told you" are simply wrong.
