Best bet is to check with your local post office. I think it is one passport photo and around $135. The post office might be able to take the photo there or just bring one with you. They will send it all in and you will be mailed the passport. Congrats to you.

Not a good idea. If your CoN gets lost, you are screwed, big time

Take the CoN home, scan it, make 3 photocopies of it, do the SSA visit, and only then apply for both passports!

There is no room in this country for hyphenated Americanism. When I refer to hyphenated Americans, I do not refer to naturalized Americans. Some of the very best Americans I have ever known were naturalized Americans, Americans born abroad. But a hyphenated American is not an American at all . . . . The one absolutely certain way of bringing this nation to ruin, of preventing all possibility of its continuing to be a nation at all, would be to permit it to become a tangle of squabbling nationalities, an intricate knot of German-Americans, Irish-Americans, English-Americans, French-Americans, Scandinavian-Americans or Italian-Americans, each preserving its separate nationality, each at heart feeling more sympathy with Europeans of that nationality, than with the other citizens of the American Republic . . . . There is no such thing as a hyphenated American who is a good American. The only man who is a good American is the man who is an American and nothing else.

It depends on where your ceremony is, but you would normally need to go to another venue to apply for a passport. You can complete and print the application on line here: http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/first/first_830.html. You should follow the instructions on the form. I applied at the US Post Office the day I got my certificate, you cannot give them a copy, the State Department requires your original Naturalization Certificate. You will need one passport photo, a check for the state department for the filing fees, and cash, credit card or check for the acceptance facility fee. I had color photocopies of my Certificate of Naturalization with me and wanted to give them one of those, and they would not take it, they insisted on the original. I applied a week ago and still can't check the status online, but there was a civil service holiday on Monday for Veteran's Day.

You can't do the SSA until at least 10 days after your ceremony, but there is no hurry to do SSA, so wait until you get your passport and take that as evidence of citizenship. I applied for both the passport card and the book with extra pages. The cost to get these is not a lot more on my budget, but everyone has to judge their own circumstances.
