Forgot to update address with USCIS

Hi,

I moved in February 2012, and did not update my new address with the USCIS until October. I actually had no idea that I needed to do that, I just learned about it after I had received a notice from USCIS about my green card's expiration date approaching, that I did receive because I had registered my new address with the postal service for forwarding.

When updating my address, I learned from that from I used that I was actually supposed to tell them of any change of address within a very short time frame (14 days? something like that).

They have my address change on file now, and will obviously learn from my evidence in the I751 that I moved 8 months before telling them, as I planned to use our apartment lease and mortgage and deed for our new house as evidence.

Is that bad, or will that just be ignored? If it was really bad, I might be able to work around it and just not include the respective evidence, we have plenty of other stuff.

Any advice?

Honestly I don't think it is going to be bad. Im in the same situation I didn't do the change of address, I realized that after I filed I751 and so far they didn't do nothing. I think they have a lot more illegal to worry about more than somebody who forgot to change their address.

I was about 2 months late, and it didn't cause a problem. Even though I changed my address they still sent the ROC reminder to my old address.

My husband (PR) and I sent our change of address notices within a week of moving back in May. We assumed there'd be no receipts but a week later I received one for my notice; he never did. A couple months later he received a ROC reminder in the mail with our previous address on it and a forward sticker from the USPS slapped over it. I thought it was illegal to forward government letters? I was worried ROC might wind up the same way so I had my husband call the hotline and they told him they weren't allowed to make changes over the phone but that the new address my husband gave him was the correct address on file, and that we could submit another if we'd like. From what we read on VJ correspondence seems to always be sent to whatever address you put on your most recent paperwork, so we filed ROC anyways and haven't had an issue since. Received both NOA and biometric letters at the new address without a forward sticker. I've yet to come across a story on VJ where someone was penalized for not updating their address with USCIS. It seems they want your most current address just for the sake of knowing where you are, but not as any kind of evidence towards whatever paperwork you submit. I assume that the reminder letter was sent based off our last submitted paperwork, which was AOS and had our old address on it. I don't consider it an issue at all by this point.
