We received an RFE because we didn't translate her divorce papers. We also didn't translate her birth certificate but the RFE didn't reference that. Will the fact that we didn't translate her birth certificate be a problem? Or should we just respond to the divorce papers? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It is my understanding that all documents be submitted in English. I could be wrong...but it's better to be over-prepared than under-prepared. I'm not sure how RFE's work but maybe there's a possibility you'll get RFE'd on the birth certificate separate from the divorce decree, If it were me, I'd cover all my bases and make sure everything was in English, just to be sure.

Seems to be a wise choice and the one I'm leaning towards... Does anyone have a recommendation for a certified translator online? If my fiance does it, It will take three days to do then 10 days to get to me... apparently scanning would not be an option...

Search for the American Translators Association online. Lots of ATA Certified translators there. Simplified Chinese shouldn't run you more than 5 or 6 cents per word.

Good luck!

You might want to read this and get all the translations done at once. Pay attention to the fact that these documents must be translated by a certified translator and NOTARIZED! Read the part about birth certificates closely. Good Luck, Robby

GUZ expects translations to be done and notarized by specific agencies within China, as this is the norm. I would not rock the boat on this. Have your girl get this done at the same place she would get an official copy of her birth certificate and certificate of singleness. Unless things have changed a lot in the last three years? eh?..... Good luck!

I think that you and Robby999 are spot on. It doesn't seem that much has changed in three years. The "Notarial Certificates" (AKA White Books) were still the way to go when we had our K-1/K-2 visas interview this past June at the Guangzhou consulate (GUZ). We had prepared and provided White Books of my wife and step-son's Birth Certs, my wife's Divorce Cert., and my step-son's Senior High School Transcript. There was never a question raised by the folks at the GUZ .

Happy trails!

I agree get them translated in China, get an extra copy (I am paranoid). Make and provide USCIS with good color copies. Take all originals to the interview. Don't mean to be a stick in the mud but read and reread the instructions carefully to avoid delays and or denials. All of the China gang are behind you.

In Arizona its hot hot hot.

I recieved an RFE too for Divorce Decree translation in English. No indication to translation of Birth Certificate nor passport but I still went ahead SENT translation of every document that was in foreign language (Russian) just to be on the safe side so I don't waste anymore time.

I would Suggest the same to you. Good luck!! Just sent my RFE yesterday - overnighted.

USCIS accepts photocopies, scans, blue crayon on greenbar paper, etc. An original is not needed with USCIS submittal, ever.

GUZ IV wants originals

So, she could translate it herself without using the notary translation service there, but

it's best to make a white book in China for GUZ IV.
