Hi,

I have a friend who told me about VisaJourney and he thought it would be a great idea for me to ask a very serious question here. I met my wife in Colombia back in 2010 during a vacation. We hit it off and exchanged contact information and went out a couple of times during my 1 month Vacation. When I got back we kept in touch and spoke daily on the phone and on skype. A couple of weeks later I lost my job and started to collect unemployment I left about a month later to visit her and to make a long story short ended up staying there and got married to her later that year. I started the Visa application and now made it all the way to the interview phase which is scheduled for next month. My question is this.. What will happen if they ask her when I visited since I really never left her side and I was collecting unemployment at a point during that time? I'm just very nervous that they could deny her because of it. I would greatly appreciate input and advice! Thank you in advance.

Do you currently make more than the minimum income requirement? If so, I highly doubt they'll even ask. Immigration is immigration - They care about four things: 1. You're in a real bona fide marriage, 2. You make enough money to support her, 3. She isn't inadmissible (due to serious immigration violations, serious mental or contagious diseases and/or criminal history) and 4. You're not a sex offender.

If you received unemployment benefits that you weren't entitled to, or you didn't make enough money back then but do now, this isn't an immigration issue.

My step father is my Co- Sponsor and I start work in a couple of weeks. I came back to look for work and because I knew that the interview notice was going to come any day. My wife and I have spoke many times and we always said that we have to be 100% truthful. Other reason for me staying there longer and not having to actually start the immigration process was due to her health as she was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer a month after we got married so i was by her side as she recovered she had a total of 2 major surgeries and another 2 minor extractions. The last extraction was about 6 months ago and she is doing very well now and has been cancer free. She does worry that they may deny her because of her medical and i tell her that she has nothing to worry about during her exams because like you said they only worry about serious mental or contagious diseases. Thank you for your input it is greatly appreciated! If you have any other insight or pointers I would appreciate those also.

It wasnt several it was around 2 years that I stayed with her. Would that be a problem?

If you and your joint-sponsor together make enough money to support her the amount of time you spent abroad won't be an issue.

I understood you are back in the US, so you have proof of US Domicile. I believe you're good.

As of now I have Zero income (havent started work yet but will after her interview date) but his income is over 65K so that shouldn't be a problem?

My wife has zero income as well. Everything was approved with her zero income and our joint-sponsor income.

It's not going to be a problem. I lived a 1-1/2 years in Colombia with my wife, that helped us alot during interwiew. They saw that it was a real marriage. The important thing is that you have a co-sponcer.

I do have one and hes my step-father and has substancial income. At least i think it is over 65-70. How long away did you get approved? What type of questions did they ask you? What tips can you give that would help my wife. What types of proof can she bring besides pictures? How about the receipts from money I have wired? Let me know I would appreciate it.

Your application may even be fast tracked since applications that are initiated for USC living abroad get processed faster. I have seen some get approved in as little as 3 months even in VSC which is going at 5-6 months for IR1/CR1.

When I starte the process I was told by several Immigration lawyers that I had to be in the U.S. to do it. I wish I knew about this before I started the application. Her interview is next week anyways. Anyone with any tips for the interview I would appreciate it!
