I bet it was. It'll be our first married Xmas this year and he'll have to come up since I'll be working. No time off until Jan, but that's retail. Sigh.

Legally it's 6 months, just like the USA but if the border officer said you have a year, then you can get a year. Understand that the only reason I mention it at all is because of all the issues we, as Canadians, have to jump through to be able to live with spouses in the USA. It makes me a little more defensive of my own country's borders. I think it's kinda understandable, I love my country :) living here was our original idea until he got his FAA job. I worry everyday about visiting, getting approved, etc... I think the sentiment is shared on the board by more than a few :-)

What is the success rate with Canadian approvals?

I see so many people in countries over-seas constantly getting denied.

Usually because it seems they 'said something wrong' or even just blatantly don't understand what didn't go right.

Does us having been married this long gain us any leniency in the process?

I would assume, the longer you've already been married, the more "believable" a marriage seems, no?

If one is strictly a Canadian (Have not immigrated from a not so friendly country) and you have no criminal background, it s probbaly like 99% Canada is not a high fraud country.

My wife and I got married on a Friday----and mailed in the paperwork a few days later!!

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Cohabiting means you guys have a genuine marriage and it shouldn't be too hard to prove. Like others have said Canada isn't a high fraud country. I most likely worry needlessly. Lol

I'm going to try and take a chill pill then and not stress out so much.

I feel like no matter what the situation is, I always feel guilty.

I was seriously thinking this the other day as I closed my bank account.

I handed her my ID and instantly felt like I had something to hide and she was going to find me out!

And every time I cross the border it's like my entire mind goes blank because I feel like I'm going to be arrested for something.

I have never been arrested in my life but man when it matters, I go completely paranoid!

Wow, I feel the exact same way as you and I'm so honest with everything! I am stressed about my interview and that I have done something wrong or whatever.

Well, considering I don't think I will get a visa approval in like 3 weeks, I don't think this will matter, correct?

Our anniversary is 27 days away, so for me to file even TODAY, he still wouldn't get an approval for months from now.

Please, correct me if I'm wrong, but, in my mind, that tells me that it doesn't matter. Unless the person above is suggesting I file a different form of paperwork other than the i-130 I'm filling out?

Thanks.

Yeah, that's what I was saying. Your husband will clearly get the 10 year green card when he crosses the border, but it's important not to let inaccuracies (like 90 days from your wedding anniversary has anything to do with anything*) go uncorrected for other people who are reading this post for advice or will in the future.

*Removal of conditions can be filed 90 days from the 2 year anniversary of getting your green card, not the two year anniversary of your marriage.
