My husband (beneficiary) and I (USC) got into a discussion about when he will be able to start looking for work in the US. Does he have to wait until he has his green card in hand? He was thinking that he would try to apply for work after he is issued the green card and before POE. However, it is my understanding, from reading previous VJers questions that he cannot enter the US before me even if it is to interview and return to Europe. He does not want to move without gainful employment. I am thinking I will have to do the job hunting until POE. Any suggestions on how to do this part? I am trying to plan ahead.

I am no the expert here at all, but I think you get one year to exercise your Green Card Stamp once you pass the interview on the CR-1.

He should be in his rights to start looking at that point.

He needs to immigrate first (ie enter the USA via a POE) before he gets the greencard stamp in his passport. He will not get his greencard at the embassy.

Once he is in the USA yes, he can technically work immediately though realistically, few employers will be interested until he can provide a SN. He can travel immediately due to the temp greencard in his passport too, so he can go to the US, stay a few weeks to do interviews then come back to Norway for a few weeks to settle any remaining issues before moving permanently. You need to move over before or at the same time as him but as mentioned, he can travel back temporarily to get stuff settled.
