Sofs appt was at 945. We arrived at 915, checked in, and he was called back for interview by 931. He was done by 950. He passed the civics part but he received "a decision cannot be made yet" and the IO asked us to fax the kids birth certificates and our 2011 taxes by this afternoon. We filed on the 5 year residency requirement so I am so confused. Why wouldnt they tell us to bring these in the first place??

First off, Congratulations!......

The Tax transcripts were asked for the the reason that they wanted to make sure you didn't owe anything to the IRS before they granted you the citizenship. And probably you didn't submit last years tax transcripts, they wanted to have a look into that. The Children's BC's are simply for their record. You surely mentioned your kids in the application and maybe didn't include the kids Birth Certiticates. USCIS keeps a record for legal and future claims by immediate relations(eg: children benifiting from citizenship status)once Citizenship is granted. Other than that, I don't think it had anything to do with your case. Good Luck and God Bless.....

Congrats and similar situation to us. We had 2009 & 2010 tax transcript but bz we recently filed for 2011 we couldnt get a copy of the transcript in time so we brought the paperwork from Jackson Hewitt. Adam too passed but they wanted the transcript for 2011 and gave us a months time to get it. We went to the IRS office in Houston & waited an hour and got it and mailed it asap. His RFE was approved on Aug 22nd and now waiting to be scheduled for his oath in a city closer to us than Houston.

Tax transcrpits almost all the time required regardless if you file based on 3 or 5 years. Also, they always ask for the last 3, if not the last 5 in some cases.

If you have kids (which you are), you should have sent a copy of the BC for the baby/babies, this is mentioned on the N-400 document check list.

Regardless, no issue here, they needed the papers, you didnt send/have them by interview time so they need you to send it:)

Congratulation :)
