I-864W in an unusal case

We just received our NOA2 on September 5th. I am trying to get all of my ducks in a row and get the next paperwork all lined up. My husband lived in the US between 1969 and 2006 and has the qualifying quarters to file the I-864W.

Do I also need to file a I-864? Should I get my tax transcripts just in case? I think we have an unsual case and I am worried I might confuse the people at the NVC and they will ask us to file the I-864 anyway.

One more question, does the certified copy of the military record go with the IV package or at the interview?

I am not a lawyer and have no direct experience, but it seems pretty clear cut that he is eligible to file the I-864W and you don't need an I-864. Make sure he has the social security earnings statement to prove that he worked those quarters.

We have the last earnings statement he received, which was in 2010. I guess the Social Security Admin cut their budget and no longer sends them out. I read somewhere that they no longer provide them, either. I hope that one is good enough. I will send the original plus a copy. Thanks for your input.

You can keep guessing, relying on faulty memory, and worrying, or look at the Social Security website > http://www.ssa.gov/mystatement/

FWIW: I do receive periodic statements from SSA showing my earnings history.

It should be sent with the IV package: http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html
