Hello everyone. I am just confused about this, I am planning to go to the Philippines next year to marry my fiancee. I'm gonna stay there for like three months (Oct- Jan probably) to fix our paper works and all. But before that, I am planning to visit Rome, Italy next year too (August probably) My question is, does my visit in Rome will affect my applying for petition? And Can I stay in the Philippines for like 3 months before I can file a petition for my soon to be husband?

Visiting other countries should not affect the petition in any way, and its a good idea to stay in the Philippines for 3 months with your fiancee before you file your petition because your petition will have a greater chance of getting approved, since you will show that you lived together and other proof that your marriage was not a fake marriage

Are you asking because you are a permanent resident and worried about time outside of the U.S.? Others will be better qualified to answer this but I believe less than 6 months outside of the U.S. won't be an issue.

If you are a USC then where you want to go is your business and how long you want to stay in PH is your choice. You just have to remember to file your taxes :)

The only issue for either would be if it affected your ability to fulfill the requirements of the affidavit of support for your future spouse. For example, if you were planning on using your current income to meet the requirements of the I-864 but if you travel for 4 months you would lose your job. That would be a reason the time away might affect your process.

Is there some other reason you are concerned about your trip to Rome? What were you planning on doing there :P (Just kidding!)

Enjoy your trip :)

A person can enter the Philippines with just a passport for 21 days. If your planning on staying longer than that you must go to the Bureau of Immigration and apply for an extension of your stay. Once you've completed your 21 days of entering the Philippines with your passport. You can apply for an extension of another 38 days. This first extension will cost you 3,030 pesos or $62.00. So with your 21 day entry and your 38 day extension that is a total of 59 days. When your 59 days are up you are now able to apply for 2 month extensions from here on up to 16 months.

Other travel doesn't matter.

Have a good time!

I'm just confused 'coz someone said to me that going outside the US while planning to apply for a petition can affect it. So I'm like, "seriously?" -- hmm hehe

Yup, I'm USC. Dual actually, Philippine and American. So I can stay in the Pi whenever I want. Yeey :)

Actually for now, I don't have a stable job. I only have part-time jobs. In that case, I can use someone in my family to be my co-sponsor right? Mmm, Can I do that? (confused again :D )

Nah hehe. I just want to visit my best friend over there. Gonna go see what Europe looks like hehe :D

Salamat :)

I still do have my Philippine passport. I'm a dual citizen now actually, 'coz when I became USC because of my parents I'm in a minor age (my Pi passport is not yet expired at that time, so they said that I'm automatically dual citizen) I used my two passports (PI and US passport) in my last trip there to Pi. I showed both of them in the immigration. So for now, when I get back home, I can stay there whenever I want :)

Ok :)

Thank you! :)

I had assumed you were dual :D

Yes, you will be able to use a co-sponsor when filing for a CR/IR through the Philippines. (It's the k1 sponsorship that has issues going through USEm-Manila) Yours doesn't even have to be a family member, just has to be someone who meets the income requirements and is residing (legally) in the US.

Nothing to worry about! Enjoy your trip! Tell me what Europe looks like :P

I have a question for you :)

When you travel with both passports which passport do you show at the entry/exit points of each airport?

Specifically when you leave the US what do you show?

When you are leaving PH to come to the US which passport do you show at the ticketing counter? Which at immigration? Which at the gate? (or is it all the same?)

What do you show when you go through your POE in the States?

Salamat ikaw!

Hehe. You, are you dual too?

Ohhh, I see. Thanks for the info :)

Sure! No probz :D U want pasalubong too? haha :P JK

When I leave the US, at the ticketing counter I showed them both. But at the immigration, they just ask for my US passport but I'm holding my Pi passport on my other hand so that if they ask for it, I'm ready :) (Better be ready at all times eh hehe.) Then when I arrived in the Philippines I showed both of my passport. They stamped it both.

When I leave Philippines, I showed both of my passport at the ticketing counter, immigration and at the gate. But when I arrived here in the US, They just asked for my US passport, I'm trying to show my Pi passport but they said they don't need it. They just need the US passport.

Salamat ulit :)

Pasalubong please :D just kidding, picture sa colessuem lang :P

That's much easier than I thought. I had seen people with two passports at the airport before but didn't realize it would be that simple. Thanks for the primer! Much appreciated!

Have fun on your trip! B-)
