Hello I am new to VJ and I hope to gain a little knowledge through everyone's ones experiences!

Then you need to read the last 40 pages in the Phillipines forum.

Good Luck ! It's a long weekend, you've some reading to do. Everyone posts their experiences there. Read there, you'll be fine.

Push expounds on 'careful study' - I always think that 'reading' involves 'careful study' so - YMMV for your comprehension skills WHEN you are reading. Do you know revision ? Do about 80 hours of revision, practice with the forms, then come back and ask questions.

Hello I am new to VJ and I hope to gain a little knowledge through everyone's ones experiences!

I have a very unique story and I hope I can gain some sort of comfort and direction through this forum! My story starts about 24 days ago. I went to visit my great grandma with my grandma in the Philippines cause she's sick. My newlywed wife (The one I am petitioning) is my grandmas friends granddaughter and they introduced me to her. I didn't leave her side after that. I decided I wanted to marry her. I asked my grandma and she let me have her engagement ring to propose to her on my cousins birthday. Got married the day before I left (10 days ago). She got my grandmas band to. I got a stainless ring until I got back and my grandpa gave me his. Now here comes the complicated part, I am only 21 years old, I am a college student with no job at the moment and not the greatest financial situation. I am reading all these stories and instructions with I-130's or I-129's and I'm at complete loss. On top of that I have a slight blemish on my criminal record that occurred almost 3 years ago but it is quite minor although I am still afraid the bumps it may cause. I want to petition her now but I am afraid it will be denied because of all this and lack of history. I have great support with all of my family and even had offers of AOS from several family members. I'm looking for any advice, and guidance! I hope to share my journey with everyone and hopefully it is a successful one! :)

Hi Quentin,

Congratulations on your wedding! May you have many years of happiness together! You sound like a good guy to go all the way to Philippines to visit your grandmother when she's sick even though you have no job at the moment and poor finances!

So, I know it seems overwhelming AT FIRST. The more you research, the more the process will make sense. Since you are already married, you need to apply for a CR-1 visa. These are the forms you start out with:

I-130

G-325

G-1145

You download these forms from USCIS website and mail them together with many other documents (read the guides). Your wife's original signature needs to be on her G-325 so she needs to get that in the mail ASAP.

After you send in this initial packet, make a wise decision about which of your family members will act as co-sponsors (research "Affidavit of Support"). Based on what you said, I don't see how you will be denied, but be prepared for a long visa journey!

Things may go faster to get your wife to the USA if you follow this guide.

Good luck, do well in school, and stay out of trouble!

Quentin is a US Citizen, so will not be applying for any visa at all. He'll be filing a petition. No need to rewrite or abbreviate the Guides. They need to be studied along with the form instructions.

I just want to emphasis I advised careful study, not just "some reading". This is a distinction, which in this context, makes a huge difference.

I digress and concur that indeed "some reading" is a poor choice of words when prudent studying is indeed in order.good.gif
