Car Insurance

Hello,

I'm a USC moving back to the US after 10 years abroad. I had US car insurance my whole driving life with no accidents but obviously I havent had it for the last 10 years in the US (I did in the foriegn country but I imagine that doesn't count).

Am I going to pay the price or would I get a quote similar to if I had never left?

Just trying to plan it out and wonder about others experience.

Im over 35 (since it might be a different story if I was younger).

I was told by a UK car insurance company that I would need US insurance documents, showing I have had no accidents or claims, to get my no claims bonus lower if I intended on returning there. Maybe you could get documents from your current insurance company that shows you haven't had an accidents. You could always try contacting US car insurance companies and asking them what their policy is too.

Obtain documents that prove your good driving history oversea if possible. All 3 insurance companies I used in US asked me if I drove in Japan so on, so I'm pretty sure they consider your driving history abroad more or less. First thing you want to do though is probably just call your potential insurance company in US and ask. Some are more flexible than others you know. But, if you really want to make sure that you'll get the best quote possible, a written proof of your good driving record doesn't hurt at all I think. I don't know where you can get a such document, but maybe try your current insurance company or DMV type of office at your place? Good Luck!

I've contacted two companies and both say all I need is the documentation of where I am a named driver (easy to produce). I shall see when I get real quotes in the future.
