I'm so friggin' upset....

I just received a phone call from my son's girlfriend's mother.....

This evening Zach, Jackie (the girlfriend) and a friend of theirs watched a movie here at our place. Jackie decided to drive the other girl home. Which meant driving clear into the southside of town and then back out to where we all live.

She was getting sleepy during the movie. Normally the other girls mother comes to collect her. When Jackie said she was going to drive Mandy home, I had this weird little feeling go up the back of my neck that I should just tell her to go straight to her house and that I should drive Mandy home.

Well she got Mandy home fine, but rear-ended a driver coming back. And she was not all that far from home....nobody is hurt. She was driving her Dad's good pickup truck rather than the old beater she usually drives.

I'm so pissed. I should have listened to my motherly instincts.

Just one more reason to sell this damn house and move into town. This damn road........ :crying:

Cant blame yourself Becca... you know hindsight 20/20 stuff.

you can play the "shoulda/coulda/woulda" game till the cows come home and it still doesnt solve that what happened did. Just be glad that she wasnt hurt, just a little shaken. She probably wont offer to drive for some time... so its ok, especialy if shes gettin drowsy at times.

glad to know shes not hurt.... but understand yer feelings regardless.

She's home. She just called. She's crying. She said the truck isn't hurt bad and her mom's not mad.

She drives a lot and is a good driver. And she tries to take some of the heat off of me because I'm in the car soooooo much driving Wes and Zach around.

I can't believe how crappy this feels. What if she HAD been hurt. They've been going together 2 years and I love her just like she were my daughter...

Sorry to know that!!! Don't beat yourself up because we all sometimes ignore our subconscience speaking to us. The good thing is that everyone is safe. Everyone lives to drive, watch movies, and kick-it another day. Thank God! Cheers!!!

Glad nobody got hurt. My mother is the same way (intuition). She gets this bad feeling about something and she swears she's almost always right. :P

There's only one thing more powerful than women's intuition and that's mom's intuition.

Bleh.

I feel terrible for the kid.

Well it is good that no one was hurt, and that all is well since the truck isn't too bad. Don't beat yourself up, at least you know the intuition is working.

Cry, swear, whatever you need to do to let go of the stress from the accident. It is natural. You have good instincts, but even if you had offered to drive in stead she may well have insisted so don't blame yourself. Just be glad that everyone is alright and be happy that you do have such good intuition. If it were something really major, you would proabably have had a much stronger feeling and then you would have said something:-). It's going to be alright now.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

So sorry to hear about the accident, but glad she's okay. I realize that things could have been worse, but they *weren't* so as others have said, try to ease up on yourself.

Take this as a confirmation that your intuition...especially Mom's intuition....is alive and well; then you can remind anyone else of this occasion in case they ever have the nerve to question you in the future!

Hugs to you, be well. (F)

Well, Jackie showed up this morning at our house before the band comeptition. Her Dad was driving - she was allowed to drive but not QUITE in the mood for it.

She was fine and back to her old giggly self. The truck doesn't look bad at all - the bumper was pushed in and scratched a bit and the grill a little marked up. Apparently she had seen the car ahead of her in time to slow her speed to about 10 mph before she impacted it. Her dad was laughing about how he had already pulled the bumper back into place this morning with the four-wheeler. He said - 'vehicles can be fixed - as long as everybody is OK then I'm not upset'.

We talked about the accident on the way home this evening. We talked about how you have to be extra careful on a familiar road as you have the tendency to relax more (the collision had not happened at an intersection but in a curve - the car she hit was stopped with blinker on to make a turn into a driveway across the road). We also talked about not driving when tired.

We've all agreed that nobody should drive when tired, and that if I have 'misgivings' again no one should protest.

Since nobody got hurt, all in all it was probably a good lesson, albeit one learned the hard way.

Yep. I've read that driving when your sleepy is similar to being drunk - a person's responsiveness is greatly hindered.
