Are you from a VWP country originally? The situation changes if you only have residency in UK(or any other VWP country) but originally from a different country.

Thanks for the reply. Yes we are originally form VWP country. Yeah of course no one goes on forums to inform they got passed without any issues. Still in doubt what to do, dont want what will be an amazing 3 months travelling not going through. So as long as we dont overstay the 90 days its no problem for the future to use VWP again when booking a 2/3 weeks ticket and then rebook it to stay 89 days?

Possibly.

Most people have no problem entering on the vwp for the full 90 days.

Even if you plan your trip for 2 weeks you will most likely get a stamp for 90 days in your passport.

Someone who only has residency in a VWP country cannot use the VWP. It is for passport holders/citizens only.

AOS for my husband
8/17/10: INTERVIEW DAY (day 123) APPROVED!!

ROC:
5/23/12: Sent out package
2/06/13: APPROVED!

We are both passport holders of VWP country, so we will use VWP when we go. Even if we book shorter trip and then change once there for max 88/89 days, this should not be a problem if we might go on holidays to US in the future again?

May be. May be not.

I think you're over analyzing. Do you have the funds to justify and pay for a long vacation? If so plan and book your trip accordingly and be prepared to show itinersries, hotel reservations, car reservations and all that you will need for those 90 days. Be prepared to explain and discuss your plans with the CBP officer at the POE.

If you come in with a 10-day ticket and $10K in cash and hotel reservations for a longer period chances are you'll have issues. If you come in with a 90-day ticket and no plans, it will look equally as bad.

Tell the CBP officer the truth. They all have a knack to spot a lie from a mile away. Considering you are in principle allowed to stay in the US for up to 90 days there is no malice in planning for such a period.

If they smell something fishy with your story chances are you'll have trouble being admitted, regardless of your intended stay. Lies always have a different ring to them. If you look closely, you will find out that most if not all the horror stories involving admission into the US normally happen to people who are less the upfront with their answers to the immigration officers.

Good luck and I hope all works out for you. Enjoy Californi-a!!!
