REPORT OF MARRIAGE OR NOT BEFORE CR1 APPLICATION

Hi Everyone,

I got married last May 2012 in the Philippines, then my husband flew back to USA and I flew back to UK. We have our marriage certificate already. But still waiting for NSO certificate.

My question is this, I still do not want to change my name yet but are we able to start the filing even we do have our marriage certificate in hand and haven't reported my marriage in Philippines? Or NSO is considered as Marriage reported? Just really confused about this. thanks

You don't need to file for Report of Marriage. You are already registered in Civil Registrar because you got married in the Philippines. Only marriages abroad can file for Report of Marriage.

I think the way it works when you get married in 'Pinas is that the Civil Registrar reports your marriage to the NSO.

I don't know much about the CR-1 spousal visa process, but I imagine at some point in the process you will be required to submit your NSO marriage certificate and maybe your CENOMAR (CENMAR) also.

Hopefully, some CR-1'ers will chime in with their experience.

That's a good question, Darnell. If she's interviewing overseas, maybe she won't need a CENOMAR and, as a bonus, there wouldn't be any CFO seminar either! :thumbs:

However, I have a feeling she'll still need an NSO-issued marriage certificate.

thank you, I have contacted the Philippine embassy here in UK to make so sure before the replies flooded. I won't be needing to report the marriage anymore as it was being passed directly to NSO as I was married in Philippines. Thanks for the replies Cheers ^.^
