If you're going to hire an immigration attorney, you need it to be someone who is versed in US immigration law. Therefore, it should be an attorney here in the US. Where, geographically, is your fiance? My attorney's fantastic, but I don't know what the typical stance is on taking cases for couples where neither one is geographically able to meet with the attorney in person. Also, the attorney (if he or she is a good one) will want to help you through the entire process at least through AOS, and not just through obtaining the K-1. This means they should be well versed in how the local visa office where you'll be living works so they can help you navigate that system's beurocracy. If you can give us an idea of where she is geographically someone might have a recommendation for you.

You don't need an immigration lawyer to do the process. I am an American woman married to a Moroccan man for two years and we have done all the paperwork ourselves. Good luck.

Hiring an attorney is entirely up to you and your, soon to be, wife

If you read on this site you can find all the information on here to Do it yourself or the answer to your question if you need one

Start from the guides

and it helps if your soon to be wife, reads up on the procedures being that she will be the petitioner and will do the filing.

when on the link chose

Guides if you are married:

option 1

Also Read up on this site in the MENA (Middle Eastern North African)forum and or post there for answers you might need from people whom have been through the Visa Journey and can help

You can hire a lawyer, especially if you think the process is too confusing to do through your own research and reading.

If you hire a lawyer, they should be licensed to practice law in the US and they should have considerable experience through your consulate. Most of the good immigration lawyers who handle consular processing (like you will be doing) are fine with working long-distance. I've worked with two lawyers who I never met in person and both did a great job of handling my concerns from a distance. They use email, phone, fax, and web communication. I'm in Korea and my current lawyer is in Texas. She has an online system where I submit facts, dates, information, and scans of documents from right there at my home office desk and she handles all the paperwork and processing on her end. It's better to work with someone excellent and skilled who is far away than someone local who doesn't actually know what they're doing.

I personally suggest the lawyers linked in my signature. Laurel Scott is really a specialist in super crazy complicated cases like mine, so you might not need someone exactly like her, but Laura Fernandez and Lizz Cannon are great for standard consular processing cases and I understand that their rates for normal, straightforward cases like yours are usually pretty reasonable!

Long story short, we have a complicated case. We've been at this for nearly 5 years. You can read our story here. I highly recommend our attorney Laurel Scott, as well as attorneys Laura Fernandez and Lizz Cannon .

Filed I-130 via CSC in Feb 2008. Petition approved June 2008. Consular interview in Mexico, Oct 2008, visa denied, INA 212a6cii. We allege improper application of the law in this case.

2012, started over in Seoul: I-130 filed DCF on 7/2, I-130 approved 8/8, Medical at Yonsei Severance 11/20, IR1 appointment in November 2012.

CRBA filed 1-3-13 at Seoul for our daughter

My husband is from Tunisia and we were able to do all of our immigration paperwork ourselves. A lawyer is not required but may help in complex cases or to ease your mind :)

Working in Turkmenistan, spouse is with me.

Dealing with the NVC process...
