Our Olympic heroes will be headed off to London this month — looking as if they’re decked out for a Hamptons lawn party. Ralph Lauren yesterday unveiled the preppy parade uniforms that Team USA members will wear at the July 27 opening ceremony, stirring an uproar over pricey duds fit...

Phelps struggles in 400 IM qualifying

Possibly the greatest Olympian of all time and certainly the greatest Olympic swimmer, Michael Phelps, almost failed to qualify in his signature event on Day 1 of the 2012 Games in London.

“The only thing that matters is to get a spot,” Phelps said, somewhat unconvincingly.

He did, just barely.

Phelps slid into the eighth and final spot of Saturday’s finals of the 400-meter individual medley by just barely touching out Hungary’s Laszlo Cseh in morning preliminaries.

Congratulations to Ryan Lochte who swam spectacularly to win Team USA's first Gold in the men's 400m individual medley.:thumbs: Just hope Phelps will be able to pick up a medal too. Also congrats to the U.S. women's swim team for winning a bronze in the 4x 100m freestyle relay and to Elizabeth Beisel for her silver in 400m IM, and to Peter Vanderkaay for winning his bronze in 400m freestyle. I know the best is yet to come for Team USA!

Yes I saw that, the Italian athlete had to hit a perfect 10 on the last shot to win the gold and he did!

I don't like the way most write ups online boldly announce that Lochte has won but the body of the article contains only interviews from Phelps. protest6wz.gif

Wambach retaliates with goal after being punched by Colombia player

wambach.jpg

U.S. forward Abby Wambach walked into the mixed zone for interviews after Saturday's 3-0 win against Colombia, and one couldn't help but look at her right eye, which was swelling and turning an unmistakable blue-black color. Wambach will have a black eye for the next few days of the Olympics -- a grim reminder of what she called the first sucker-punch she had ever received in her life.

It came from the right fist of the creatively (and somewhat inaccurately) named Colombian midfielder Lady Andrade. During the first half of a game in which Wambach would score her sixth career Olympic goal to break the U.S. record held by Mia Hamm and Tiffeny Milbrett, Andrade ran into Wambach's path during a U.S. foray upfield. Flashing a punishing right cross, Andrade made a direct hit on Wambach's face, crumpling her to the turf in clear pain. Neither Greek referee Thalia Mitsi nor her crew appeared to see the play, and they made no call.

I agree. No disrespect to Phelps but I think this may be Lochte's games. :star: Although I do hope that Phelps at least wins one medal, so he doesn't come home empty handed.
