Hello all, love this website its been soo helpful to us over the years! Thanks for all the help! Well, my wife finally has her N-400 interview in about a month and in going over the checklist on the letter it says to bring the past three years of Tax forms to the interview. We file jointly and I haven't yet filed for us for 2011, I got an extension (until 10/15) because I will owe some money and wanted to give myself more time to pay. My question is will it hold up my wife's naturalization if she doesn't have the 2011 tax form and is it necessary to file before the interview or can I wait until 10/15 to send it in like I was planning on doing? thanks in advance!

When I sent the packet to file it was in February so I hadn't filed for 2011 yet. When I had my interview last week, I took a copy of the 2011 return transcript but the officer didn't even ask to see it. I guess the transcripts from 2010, 2009 and 2008 were good enough.

That being said, if you owe taxes you need to provide proof that you've made arrangements with the IRS to pay them. Make sure you take copies of all this to the interview just in case.

You do not know if they will ask for it, but for sure you want to take the extension leter for you, as well as 2008. Nothing to worry about as long as you owe nothing from prior years..

Thanks for the responses, I appreciate it greatly! So I guess it depends on the interviewer as to if they will ask to see the tax returns. The only other thing is that I do owe for some previous tax years and I'm on a payment plan with the IRS where I pay a set amount every month, in fact I have to send in another payment this week. argghh! And I guess it makes sense to bring the payment plan agreement from the IRS to the interview.

As long as you are making payments you should be fine.

Just take all the agreements and payements receipts with you to show good moral character and you are taking care of things.

you should be fine :)
