In an absolutely stunning display of hypocrisy GOP Rep. Ron Paul Admits He Takes Social Security, Which He Once Likened To Slavery

The math will never add up as long as the revenues from the Social Security tax are commingled with general revenues.

Leaving it on autopilot, the entirety of the country's discretionary budget spending will be consumed by Medicare alone in the not too distant future - Social Security should not be used to cover the shortfall.

Someone on here gets it.

"I want to take this opportunity to mention how thankful I am for an Obama re-election. The choice was clear. We cannot live in a country that treats homosexuals and women as second class citizens. Homosexuals deserve all of the rights and benefits of marriage that heterosexuals receive. Women deserve to be treated with respect and their salaries should not depend on their gender, but their quality of work. I am also thankful that the great, progressive state of California once again voted for the correct President. America is moving forward, and the direction is a positive one."

Check the deficit. If a bank had such a huge difference between assets and liabilities, the FDIC would be in there so fast to shut them down.

The national debt is a different issue. But not unique to the US. Most modern economies have such a debt. Why do you insist on trying to frame the government of our country as some kind of criminal?? You are an enemy of our government?

Don't put words in my mouth. You should know better. I'm saying that if someone in the private sector did what they are doing, they would surely find themselves in U.S. District Court.

And if anybody in the private sector did a whole lot of things the government does every day they would go to prison! Print money. Arrest and imprison people. Execute people. Take people's land to create roads, bridges, airports. Regulate professions. So what exactly is your point? The government is a very distinctly different entity in a legal sense than any private corporation. Ultimately it is the representation of the combined citizenry of the entire country! Too bad they don't do everything exactly how you and your right-wing buddies like. They also don't do everything exactly the way I like. Accept it. It is reality, just like Obama, a black man, is the duly elected president of the country! And just like we have a progressive income tax, a socialistic Social Security system, socialistic Medicare, etc. You have your vote. So do millions of other people.

The money is still there, on paper, in the SS trust fund.

It's not. What's there are US Treasury bonds - debt obligations the government uses to borrow money, which includes "borrowing from itself".

By law, income to the trust funds must be invested, on a daily basis, in securities guaranteed as to both principal and interest by the Federal government. All securities held by the trust funds are "special issues" of the United States Treasury. Such securities are available only to the trust funds.

Social Security Trust Fund FAQs

You can see the current "investment" holdings here.

I put the word "investment" in quotes because US government debt is the worst possible investment at the moment - adjusted for inflation, it gives you negative returns. "Investing" the Trust Fund's money in Treasuries is really a scam.

And since it is only 'on paper' or now, on a computer accounting spreadsheet, that the money even exists how can you claim that it was ever 'used' for other purposes. It is like you have this big savings account. You also owe money to the bank on your credit cards. To impress your fiancee that you are responsible with your money you mentally subtract the amount you keep in savings from the credit card balance and tell her you only owe the smaller amount. No money has been 'used' there. It is all just in how you have visualized it. That is what, in effect, our government has done on occasion in the past. That money is still 'there' in the SS trust fund. The actual deficits have been larger at times in the past than they were ready to say. It is all just in how you prefer to visualize this imaginary pile of cash relative to this even larger hole of debt.

Not the case - see above.

I'm not right wing. They're all incompetent crooks as far as I'm concerned. BTW the way thanks for throwing race into it. I have Obama's Indonesian birth certificate under lock and key. I'm just waiting for the right time to go on the O'Reilly Factor to expose it. I'm waiting 2 days before the election. Yeah I have my vote. What joke that is. I live in Texas. Ever heard of the Electoral College? I could vote for Obama 5 times over like they do in Chicago and he would still lose Texas.

Off topic just a bit, and this is no way a flame. It's an honest question and it's killing me. How did you ever hook up with a RUB chick? I mean you don't fit the description of your typical American guy married to a RUB gal. I just can't picture it in my mind is all.

Why didn't they ask Ron Paul why he elected to pay into the Social Security System for the whole of his working years?

That would've really shown people how hypocritical he is! "But Congressman, you paid into this system for over 50 years! Why on earth would you ever participate in a system you don't believe in?"

My wife does not care for politics at all, Russian or American. We share an appreciation for most everything else we each find important in life. Our biggest disagreement is still over eating sushi or dried fish! She loves them, I don't! I feel about her fish the way she feels about politics!

Not the case - see above.

I really don't see the distinction! Treasury bonds are some of the safest repositories for funds in the world! They even earn interest most of the time.
