Should my wife fill form i-131 as part of AOS package?

Hi. My wife is filing the AOS package concurrently with my filing an i-130 for her immigrant visa (I'm a USC).

We are currently in the US. She entered on a student F-1 visa about a year ago and recently we decided to stay in the US.

As I understand, form i-131 (Application for Travel Document) is part of the AOS package and is for allowing my wife to travel out of the US and return (bound to the requirements of course).

Is this a form we should fill now as part of the package although there is no specific planned travel plans? Some of the form seems to refer to dates and purpose of a specific trip outside the US...

Or should she fill this form only when there are some sort of concrete travel plans in the near future?

Yes, in case an emergency arises and she needs to travel, it is always better to have it than to not have it. It is free. You can write "unknown" in the planned trip field.

So we put down 'unknown' for part 3 line 1:

- date of intended departure

and part 3 line 2:

- expected length of trip

since currently my wife doesn't know where she will be traveling to, when, or for how long - do you suggest that she should also write 'unkown' for both sections of part 4?

- purpose of trip

- list of countries you intend to visit

If you read the form carefully, you will find that you are meant to skip from the middle of part 3 to part 7. So, those questions don't come up.
