Hey everyone, does anybody in here know if Sydney consulate allows for self sponsoring or will we definitely need a co-sponsor?

self-sponsoring? What visa are you applying for? If it's K1 like your profile states, what exactly do you mean by "self-sponsoring"? Using your Aussie income? Using Aussie assets?

Hi there JEC. About a month ago I spoke to a lawyer who worked previously as a consular officer in Sydney, to ask this question. (My fiancé had been laid off and we weren't sure if we'd qualify on the financial requirements, and we didn't really want to use a joint sponsor if we could do it on our own.) She said to me that there wasn't such a thing as 'self-sponsoring' per se, but advised me to send in information about my assets together with my fiancé's I-134. She said they might be taken into consideration, although there was no guarantee of it.

I've read a few posts from people in London saying that they were able to self-sponsor, but haven't found any from Australians.

I presume you've looked into having a joint sponsor? It seems that most of the time that gets you through if the American partner doesn't meet the income requirements.

Thanks Riss. Unfortunately we have no options at this stage as far as a co sponsor goes. I'm going to take bank statements showing that I have substantial savings and an income of $2400 a month that will continue once I have moved to the USA then I am going to cross my fingers and toes and pray like mad that I get a sympathetic interviewer who will take these details into consideration.

Thanks for your post.

I can't remember for sure but I think the advice I was given was to actually mail my own financial info in with the packet that I send to the consulate. That's what I'm planning to do, I figure if they have the info about my assets available when they are assessing L's I-134, that would be best.

Best of luck, JEC. :)
