It says two hole punching at the top of the documents is "appreciated". Did you all do this? I feel weird putting holes in these very important documents?!

You already made a thread about this topic a few minutes ago. Some people did, I'm sure. USCIS puts holes in those important documents. If it worries you, then don't. Use a paperclip and send it off. USCIS is going to rearrange it the way they like it.

No, I would not and did not because USCIS will do it themselves.

Two holes on top, three on the side or clip - or clasp - at the corner will not render the documents more or less valid, so long as they do not compromise the integrity of the information contained in the document. It is your call really.

General Tips on Assembling Applications for Mailing

  • Mark both the envelope and the cover letter as to the nature of the submission. Example: ORIGINAL SUBMISSION - BRIEF FOR AN APPEAL - RESPONSE TO REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL INFORMATION - etc.
  • Use the appropriate mailing address and mark both the envelope and the cover letter as to the form type. Example: I-129; I-130; I-690; I-698, etc.
  • Provide both the receipt notice number and the A-Number as an identifier, if they are available.
  • If the packet is being resubmitted in response to a REQUEST FOR ADDITIONAL EVIDENCE (RFE), please place the notice requesting the additional evidence/information on the top of the packet. Also, please use the special mailing envelope provided.
  • If evidence is being submitted in support of a previously filed appeal or motion, a cover letter stating "BRIEF FOR APPEAL", etc., should be placed on top of the packet.
  • In preparing your packet, please take note of the following:
    • Do not use binders or folders that cannot be easily disassembled.
    • Use ACCO fasteners to hold together thick or bulky applications or petitions. Two-hole punching the top of the material for easy placement in the file is appreciated.
    • The use of tabs assist in locating items listed as attachments. The tabs should be placed on the bottom and not the side for ease in filing.
    • Avoid using heavy-duty staples; instead use ACCO fasteners or heavy clips.
    • Avoid submitting originals unless specifically required. Avoid submitting oversized documentation when possible.

[*]If you are sending more than one case in an envelope, clearly separate the cases by rubber band or clip fasteners.

We did exactly per guidance indicated by Gegel when we submitted our I-129F petition. ([*]Use ACCO fasteners to hold together thick or bulky applications or petitions. Two-hole punching the top of the material for easy placement in the file is appreciated.)

I used a pack of assorted binder clips & paper clips from office depot to organize everything and keep separate types of material distinguished. I'm sure they have enough problems to deal with petitions without me putting the holes in the wrong place/the wrong width apart :bonk:

We two-hole punched our forms and submitted documents. You will receive all manner of comments about this often discussed topic.

Our visas were approved yesterday, the proof is in the pudding.....IMHO

Good luck on your visa journey.

Hello;

If you put two holes at the top, how do you know the distance apart etc. It would seem there useless, unless they're the right width apart. Also any particular style of acco clips, they seem to make a-z types of fasteners. I didn't do this for my sending for petition approval, but was contemplating how best to send the copy plus additional forms & evidence of the relationship to my finance for the interview. I would like to put tabs, for clarification, & I guess they like them at the bottom not the side.

Thanks,

Rob & Jellie
