Ok...so I have heard rumors that if you go through JFK in New York you can automatically get a Work Permit stamp upon request. First is this true? Does this happen anywhere else? If you have to get a Work Permit upon entry other than at the airport, where do you get it and how long does it take?

Then later on, when applying for AOS (green card) how long does it take to get an EAD for the remainder of the time before receiving a green card?

My fiance is really worried about not working. He wants to start working asap if possible so he can go find a job and tell them he can work right away instead of losing a job opp because he has to wait.

Hope this makes sense.

Please help!

Thanks!

One of the problems when getting the authorization stamp at the POE is that it is only valid for 90 days. Under that scenario he will have to stop working until you get AOS or EAD. If he works beyond his authorization on the I-94 stamp then it will only cause problems in the future.

YMMV

A temp EAD is available at JFK.... tthis appears to be the only POE that is still issueing temp EAD to K1 holders. it is valid for 90 days from the date of entry....

Once you are married and file for AOS and EAD it will be about 90 days maybe more to get a 1 year EAD.... if the temp EAD expires and you do not have the 1 year EAD or the Greencard then you are ment to stop working and await the EAD.....

Remember that he will need to apply for a SSN and that can take a few weeks to get and he cant start work until he has this so the 90 days is even less.....

Good Luck

Kezzie

Then whats the point in even getting and EAD as when you get the greencard you can automatically work anyway?....How long does the AOS take? How long till he would get a greencard?
