G-325a "All other names used" field

I'm South African and my US girlfriend is about to petition for a K-1 visa for me.

My problem is regarding evidence of our recent times together in SA. Within SA I use a shortened form of my passport name, which may not be obvious to US-based officials.

Can I include the informal version of my name on the G-325a form, so that our supporting documents make sense? Or should this rather be mentioned in a cover letter or the like.

Any suggestions most welcome, thanks

-W.

Welcome to the forum.

Insert your names as indicated in the first and second set of boxes on the form.

Good luck on your visa journey.

Thanks A&B

Insert your names as indicated in the first and second set of boxes on the form.

This doesn't really solve my problem. To be explicit:

My first name is not the same as my informal name used in correspondence (which we want to submit as proof of our relationship.)

Where can I specify my informal name? Should I avoid the "all other names used" field on the g-325a form? If so, where can I mention the fact that both names are mine?

Many thanks

"other names" are not nicknames you use with your fiance, such as "honey", "baby" or whatever. They are other names you use in an official capacity- such as if you were married before you may have used the ex's name for a while, or if you are a writer you may have a pen name, or or you converted religions you may have had a different name before. If you use your "informal" name on your bank account, country ID etc, then put it there. Basically, what they are looking for is names that helps them do background checks.

Sounds like you need to indicate in the "Other Names Used" field something like "Goes by...." or John David (Dave) SMITH. If it can't be explained that way, explain it in a separate letter.

Thank you, that is a very good example: David vs. Dave, where Dave would be the "informal" version.

Because I'm not English speaking, the link might not be obvious to US officials, such as in the David/Dave case.

I am leaning towards using the "All Other Names" field for this.

Cheers, and thanks for all the replies.
