For question 32 on Form-DS-230 it states the following:

In what occupation do you intend to work in the United States?

I'm helping my fiancee complete the forms requested by the embassy in her country and we're stumped on question #32 on Form-DS-230, would it reflect negatively if we write down "Intend To Finish School?" But she would first take some English courses to strengthen her English, so it wouldn't be right away.

I think this question is correspond to the Form DS-156 Q36: "Do you intend to work in the US?"(which is brought to the consulate at the interview time).

IMHO it is a confirmation of "intention to apply for work authorization".

So, If she wants EAD, and her current occupation is not a licensed occupation(such as architecture, nurse, lawyer etc.), write down her latest job title on DS-230 Q23.

otherwise, "Undecided" is a safe answer.

Patch97777, what is your fiancee's country? This form is not required in most embassies but I think I read somewhere some embassies requires it. (just want to check).

Does your fiancee have an idea of which job position she would like to apply for after her English classes? Because "intend to finish school" doesn't really answer the question in the form...

Does your fiancee have an idea of which job position she would like to apply for after her English classes? Because "intend to finish school" doesn't really answer the question in the form...

She is studying in school for a degree in management, would "management" suffice?

My fiancee's country is Romania, and they(Bucharest Embassy) sent her Form DS-230 to complete and return. Also on Form DS-156 for Q32 we wrote down "WITH WORK AUTHORIZATION, EMPLOYER UNKNOWN" and for Q33 "UNKNOWN". Is this fine?

Thank you guys for helping me, I really appreciate the time you guys take in responding back, thanks!

Does it look better for the consulate to hear and see that my fiancee has a specific place prepared to work when she comes here in the U.S.?

I just filled in mine and it was accepted, I just put down my current job as the one I intend to work in.


USCIS [*] 22 Nov. 2011 - I-129 package sent; [*] 25 Nov. 2011 - Package delivered; [*] 25 Nov. 2011 - NOA1/petition received and routed to the California Service Center; [*] 30 Nov. 2011 - Touched/confirmation though text message and email; [*] 03 Dec. 2011 - Hard copy received; [*]24 April 2012 - NOA2 (no RFEs)/text message/email/USCIS account updated; [*] 27 April 2012 - NOA2 hard copy received.

NVC [*] 14 May 2012 - Petition received by NVC ; [*] 16 May 2012 - Petition left NVC.

EMBASSY [*] 18 May 2012 - Petition arrived at the US Embassy in Bucharest; [*] 22 May 2012 - Package 3 received; [*] 24 May 2012 - Package sent to the consulate, interview date set; [*] 14 June 2012 - Interview date, approved.

[*] 15 May 2013 - Moved from MN to LA; [*] 17 May 2013 - Applied for a new SS card/filed an AR-11 online (unsuccessfully), therefore called and spoke to a Tier 2 and changed the address; [*] 22 May 2013 - Address updated on My Case Status (finally can see the case numbers online); [*] 28 May 2013 - Letter received in the mail confirming the change of address; [*] 31 July 2013 - Went to Romania; [*] 12 September 2013 - returned to the US using the AP, POE Houston, everything went smoothly; [*] 20 September 2013 - Spoke to a Tier2 and put in a service request; [*] 23 September 2013 - Got "Possible Interview Waiver" letter (originally sent on August, 29th to my old address, returned and re-routed to my current address); [*] 1 October 2013 - Started a new job.

Yes that's fine. For the job question, just write "undecided" as goatherder said, or the job title she will look for after her studies.
