I posted this movie in another thread before, but if you are in the mood to be scared, I'd recommend watching this!

I just added that to my Netflix Queue, thanks!

What about The Omen? I don't know why but that movie gave me the creeps when I was younger. Oh and for gore-fests there's always Dead Alive, I thought that movie was hillarious.

Devil's Backbone is very good - but I didn't find it really scary (not really sure its intended to be). John Carpenter's 70's films were pretty good, as was the original Halloween. Never really enjoyed slasher pictures.

I watched Dawn of the Dead (original) when I was turning 8 years old. It was an accident that I actually saw that thing. My sister and I share the same birthday and during that time, her husband rented the movie and they were watching it. I thought it was a violent action movie for my dad because he likes those and then I saw these horrible things ripping people apart. The most horrible scene that burned itself in my mind was when the wife was looking for her husband and he shows up in zombie mode and the idiot goes to hug him and he bites her shoulder and side and it was gruesome. Gave me nightmares for years until I was in my 20's. I avoided every zombie movie until I decided to face that fear and get it through my mind that they were just actors and it was not real.

I was afraid of Nightmare on Elm Street 1 when I was a kid but there was a part where Nancy and her boyfriend were talking about dreams and what to do when you meet a monster. I just started to think about what they said about taking the energy away from the monster and my zombie nightmares were gone. I even saw Shaun of the Dead and I liked it. I won't push it though.

Scary movies to me are

Dawn of the Dead

It

The Fog

Amityville (GET OUT!)

That was before the infamous "head exploding" scene.

Worst bit in that movie was the biker guy being disembowelled near the end. They used animal guts inside a rubber torso.

There are several on that list that I wouldn't call "horror" movies. Maybe my definition is too narrow.

I totally agree but I'm not a fan of 'horror' movies. There's never any character development in the typical horror film and if it is it's shallow. When 'bang all the cheerleaders guy' and 'bang the football team girl' get chainsawed by Jason it's hard to get scared let alone feel pity. It's more comical. It's just a matter of when/how. Run through the woods and trip and turn your ankle or split up to investigate. Horror films are lame. Always have been, always will be.

Saw needs to be on the list as well.

Saw is my absolute favorite scary movie ever.

I don't understand why Halloween isn't on the list. Also, The Ring (Japanese original, not the American crappy remake) should be right up there too.

I saw Session 9 the other day and was very underwhelmed by it. Low budget I can deal with so long as the script is decent. But wow... an hour an a half of tedium capped with a series of inexplicable murders.

i agree..the movie was a waste of time and shows how low some of the asctors have sunk in their career

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).
