Would it be too late to file my CR1 as a K-3? I just noticed that CSC is processing for the I-129F for the K-3 is processing. They are currenlty processing Feb applications??? Looks like it is moving quicker than the CR1 at this time??

01/06/2012- Married My best friend

05/09/2012- Mailed I-130 via Fed Ex

5/10/2012- I-130 has been received & Signed for at the Chicago lockbox at 10:23 am

05/14/2012- Received NOA1 via Text Message

05/17/2012- Received NOA1 via Snail Mail(Postmarked 5/15/2012)

07/27/2012- 9:36 am Received NOA2 via text message (thought it was a dream)

07/30/2012- Started calling the NVC to see if case has been received

08/02/2012 -Called NVC- Rep told me that NVC Received Package 07/30/2012 (Still no case# assigned)

08/16/2012 -Called NVC- Information has been entered and received my case number (Yahooo)

08/24/2012- AOS Bill invoiced and paid

08/30/2012- Emailed the DS-3023

09/05/2012- Sent AOS (Affidavit of support) packet via Fed Ex (overnight)

09/06/2012- AOS Packet received

09/11/2012- Received email notification that the DS-3023 (Choice of Agent) has been accepted

09/13/2012- Received IV Bill

09/13/2012- Paid IV Bill

09/17/2012- IV marked as paid

09/17/2012- Sent IV Package (DS-230) via Fed Ex

09/18/2012- IV Package Received

09/18/2012- AOS Packet Accepted

09/25/2012- Called NVC and found out I have an RFE

09/26/2012- Received RFE via EMAIL

10/01/2012- Sent original divorce documentation (RFE) via Fed Ex overnight

10/15/2012- CASE COMPLETE (Yahoooooooooooo)

10/23/2012- Case complete email received..

11/02/2012- Called DOS and received interview date

11/05/2012- Received email with check list and appointment date

11/20/2012- Medical Completed

12/03/2012- Interview Scheduled

12/24/2012- Entered the USA and got to MN at 12:08 am on 12/25/2012 Merry X-Mas to us

It's seriously not worth it. if you enter as a K-3 you have to adjust status in the U.S., which costs more than a thousand dollars and takes many more months. More likely, as soon as your I-130 is approved USCIS will close your I-129F and it will be wasted. K-3s don't take much longer than CR-1, despite what the CSC processing suggests.

I agree with grrrrreat, there would be no real benefit you as you have already filed the I-130.

02/17/02: KH & PH started dating

11/11/06: Married in the UK

05/10/12: Sent off I-130 via Express Mail

05/11/12: I-130 signed for at Chicago Lockbox

05/11/12: Priority date for I-130

05/21/12: Received NOA1 hardcopy VSC

To answer the question posed in your topic title, no it would not be worth it. If you file an I-129F, USCIS will pull the I-130 from its current place in the queue and place it with the I-129F that was just submitted (this how the petitions are tied together). By submitting the I-129F, you loose your current place in line.

Furthermore, an adjudication decision on both petitions is likely to be made at the same time and if approved, will likely be sent to the NVC at the same time. If both petitions arrive at the NVC at the same time (which is what happens most of the time) or if the I-130 arrives at the NVC ahead of the I-129F, then the I-129F that was filed to start the K3 process will be administratively closed leaving only the I-130 active.

If you were to file the I-129F to start the K3, it will likely end up being closed by the NVC and you will have cost yourself time only to end up on the same path that you are currently on.

July 23, 2025:  Filed N-400 online

Agree with Ryan, filing the K3 docs will slow your petition down if anything.

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.
