The whole region is turning "Ghetto", perhaps not in actual lifestyle, and scale of urban blight, but the attitude and style is there. But yeah, when I was in my teens and early twenties, West LA was white bread, as was the West SFV where I was raised. Now, there are just islands of suburbia left. Surprisingly, I still feel at ease in most of LA City, and I like that the LAPD are the nervous ones now, and not the other way around. Them kids patrolling the streets don't stand a chance anymore, if that town riots again! It looks like the LAC Sheriff is the one recruiting all the beef these days.

I can report that Burbank is as boring as ever, which is one of the reasons I fled the Valley. I'd never lived in suburbia before and it freaked me out.

LA is an amazing city, and I love living here. Jack ALL happens in my neighbourhood, which is just the way I like it. I'm super-swoony over Downtown nightlife. In fact the bar where I'm a regular is Downtown, even though I live 10 miles away (go figure). There's always a good but friendly police presence at night there, and I'm not a moron who decides to go check out Skid Row for the exotic denizens. Plenty of stuff to do down there, and there's a lower ratio of d0uchebags to genuinely interesting (I will not use the word normal -- this is LA) people than, say, Hollywood or even Silver Lake these days. SL is about 93% hipsters, anyway, so I stay away. WeHo's a parking nightmare. I hang out in Koreatown a lot because that's where the Hawt American lives, and that's about the only place I am on a regular basis that I would not walk around alone in at night.

Yeah, I prefer walking to my car at night alone Downtown than in K-town. However, K-town is very close to the awesome taco trucks in Pico-Union!
