no progress yet (except yellow letter on 10/05/12), but on monday i will be on 91 day so i hope to be able to open a service request and maybe get some movement.

when is your oath day?!

People usually get yellow letter right before interview letter so hopefully that's your case. Although I didn't receive that.

My oath is for October 26. So hopefully I can still vote.

Well, my interview is done. I arrived at 26 Federal Plaza at 1.15 for my 1.45 interview. There was a line for security but it didn't take long. I was upstairs and waiting by 1.25. My lawyer arrived around 1.35 p.m. We were called at 1.40 p.m. (5 minutes early!!) and the interview began. He went through my papers, explained that he can't recognize my same sex marriage for immigration purposes, so I am down as single (I have 5 years from Green Card so no biggie). Then went through all my trips out of the USA and crossed off all the ones where I spent less than a full day in another country (you have to be outside the US from midnight to midnight for it to count as a full day apparently, alot of my trips are NY - Toronto -NY one the same day, or with one night away, so they don't count). He couldn't find my birth certificate in the file, but my lawyer had a copy. He spent a long time shuffling the papers making sure everything was correct. He asked six questions:

1. What is the rule of law?

2. What is the name of the national anthem?

3. What happened on 9/11/2011?

4. Why are there 13 stripes on the flag?

5. How old do you have to be to vote for President?

6. What ocean is on the west coast of the United States?

He asked me to write "We pay taxes" and to read "What money do we give the government?"

The interview finished at 2.10 and he gave me a piece of paper and said my letter would come in the mail. My lawyer asked if we could wait, but the officer explained that the area that does the letters stops doing them at 2 p.m. and there is nothing he could do. So I guess I will have to wait.

I found the whole process quite straightforward, the officer was very professional and friendly. I think that once I have taken my oath, I will write to Secretary Napolitano and commend the officer.

I used info pass yesterday to check on Tita's status. She passed the test 09/12/2012 so I was a little concerned. Apparently she was not put into the Oath queue until 10/15/2015. I do not know now whether she will get the Oath before election day, but we remain hopeful.

My lawyer and I discussed the possibility of getting an oath date letter in time to vote, the possibility is extremely remote. I have given up hope on getting the oath done before 10/26/2012. I would like to have the oath and get a US passport before I go to Australia in March.

Quite frankly, these are civil servants who are employed to provide a service to immigrants that pay fees for that service. I find it unacceptable that any of these people behave in an unprofessional manner. Fortunately, I will have my lawyer with me, which I am hoping will discourage any unprofessional behaviour, but I can assure you if I get less than professional treatment, I will be writing to Secretary Clinton and cc'ing Sen Gillebrand, Senator Schumer and Congresswoman Clarke and expressing my disappointment at the lack of professionalism and courtesy. I don't care if an officer is having a bad day or their haemorrhoids are painful or whatever, I deserve and should receive respectful, professional treatment.

I am with you on this, but if I were to complain in writing I would address the letter to the supervisor of this worker. Also, I would not name the person directly (which they could figure out if they desired to, of course), but advised that officers should be reminded - and often - of the status of the job they perform and also the kind of conduct this status ultimately requires of them. End of the day, these people represent the government of the US of A and not a potato farm.

What I would personally complain about to the 'higher powers' is the way the system works. I think it is very unfair, for example, that some people receive their oath dates sooner than others. If you are lucky to have your interview scheduled in the morning, you will likely receive the oath letter on the spot, but when it is scheduled for the afternoon hours then, well, you are out of luck and in regard to your oath scheduling you will be placed in the 'do it tomorrow' pile, where the 'tomorrow' in question may be any day within the following 120 days. The whole oath scheduling process is a mess. The USCIS website says that you will receive the response in regard to oath scheduling within 30 days. The IO will tell you it is 45 to 60, but if you call the hotline it is 120 and you will hear a very kindly expressed 'do not bother us if 90 days have not yet passed.' This part of the process should be done on the first come, first served basis. If one person has to wait to receive an oath letter by mail, everyone should be made to wait. That, simply, would make the process fair and square for everyone. For me it has been 22 days since my interview and... nothing. And it can, but hopefully it will not be, another 98 days of waiting.

Of course, I congratulate and am happy for all of you who got your oath letters already and were spared the wait. I am just expressing my point of view.

I passed the test and my interview went really smooth. I went to the office around 8:40 am and seated in the waiting room. They called my name at 9:15 am and the officer told me there was a new employee attending my interview. I thought to myself, I am the ginea pig :) I took oath to tell the truth and they went through my papers. He made some changes since I travelled after I prepared the document and he added there and asked why my husband wasn’t there. They asked me to show him a new additional documents and I gave him car insurance card, and the copy of the statement of our car loan. It was pretty straight forward process. I signed the papers with corrections and then he asked me civics questions.

I read “How many members are the in the Senate” for reading part and he asked me to write “We have one hundred senators” for the writing part of the test.

1. What is the name of the national anthem?

2. What is the rule of law?

3. What ocean is on the West coast?

4. How old do you have to be to vote for President?

5. What happened on September 11, 2011?

6. Why are there 13 stripes on the flag?

After everything was done, he asked me to wait for the oath letter. The oath ceremony will be held next Wednesday.

Good luck all! I hope your experience will be as easy as mine.
