IRS Tax transcripts contain all the tax information they may be interested in and it proves you've filed your taxes each year. You only need to bring the tax transcripts.

That's it, the tax transcript.

There is no financial component to naturalization, they only need to see you HAVE filed your taxes as required.

If applying for that three year marriage privilege, want to see both you and your spouses names on it. The USCIS does not define a happy non-fraudulent marriage as living in a cave and raising chickens together, but filing a joint return to the IRS. Are allowed to file separate returns, is perfectly legal, but will want to see both returns. You don't have to submit tax transcripts, but can bring in your own tax returns exactly the same way you sent them into the IRS. If you print these out, have to be signed by both of you with all those 1099's and W-2" attached.

Far easier to just submit the transcripts and a lot less paper to carry. Don't even need tax returns for the five year nor any other proof you are buying stuff and paying taxes and other bills together. And what's even more ironic, don't even want to see or meet your spouse.

Its their game, they make the rules, and even make up new rules as they go along.
