Still a bit confused, please bare with me.

So how did your significant know to go tot the postal center. What was the notification process?

The first ones they sent a notice to the address , after a bit his "friend" called him as soon as a box arrived to be sure to be the one to collect on "fees"

I didn't think it would be this costly, definitely warrants a rethink and strategizing. A lot of this stuff is available in Nigeria anyways and cheaper to boot.

I sent a 13 lb package to my hubby (Visa documentation stuff) through USPS - Express Mail International, and it cost me $170.00. It was supposed to get there in 3-5 business days and it took something like 14 days, but he did get it. I believe it was held up in customs. I also put on the outside of the box in big bold red & yellow letters for them to "hold the package for the recipient pickup", and my hubby said they texted him when it arrived at the post office.

The same box sent via DHL/FedEx would have cost me anywhere from $400-800.

I use to send pkgs all the time all mine arrived in 14days and all contents still inside. They would drop a note at his house to let him know he has something to be picked up at the post office goodluck to you....

LOL girl your sending tons of stuff you need a freightliner.....which might not be a bad idea i remember when we finished building our house over there we shipped freights with like fridge,stove, microwave, furniture, SUV etc...but we shared the cost with another family who also put some of the same things in side

That will be next year once he gets settled here. I like that even an SUV.

I have a brother in-law works for the cargo tanker people in Dubai. So I can get the big stuff shipped.

It was a lot of excitement shipping the things for me...even more excitement arriving in Lagos and seeing my things and decorating our home it was fun times for sure...your time is coming goodluck to you

Okay so I shipped the package on 4/24/12 using USPS (priority box - $60), she sauntered by the Dugbe Post Office in Ibadan this morning whilst she was in the area taking care fo other business and the package was there. They charged her N3,100 (~$20) which I presume is custom charges (they did give her a receipt for that - they normally don't give receipts for bribes).

So looks like 13 days from Anaheim, California to Ibadan Nigeria not too shaby.

In case this is of benefit to others.

PS: Nothing was missing.

I am breaking down the 53 lbs I was going to send via suitcase but it missed its flight .

So I have about 9 lbs to send off first.

The USPS requirement is less than 20 pounds and the box is 12" x 12" x 5-1/2"

As a proud Ijebu tribalman (a tribe known for their frugality) I represented my tribe very well by making sure that I tipped in at 19.9 pounds

She said the box did not appear pre opened (I assumed they would use some sort of XRay device). It was all there, mainly clothes, jewelry, shoes, bags, wedding magazine, copy of the I-129F, etc

She actually got a text on her phone earlier in the day that she had a paackage but she did not look at her phone until after she had picked it up (so they do indeed send text messages).

My comfort/confidence level is rather high so I will start preparing the next package
