Hi All,

I just recently got approved in getting insurance but it is through Catamount Assistant Program.I was wondering if this is a public tested benefits. When i applied for this assistance i submitted my payslip and they based me as low income.I am going to petition my parents to come to America soon.Is this kind of assistance gonna affect the application?

Also, i know that i am going to need a co joint sponsor to petition them.My joint sponsor owes tax but not much..is it going to be a problem? please help i am only asking...Thank you

I looked up Catamount Health Insurance program and while this is state funded insurance, I don't think it is means tested since it is not federal administered. Maybe someone else has a better answer.

If you petitioned for your parents then you're a US citizen. You can apply for and receive any public benefits you are eligible for, whether they are means tested or not. Receiving those benefits does not make you ineligible to file a petition or sign an affidavit of support. The only effect it has on you is that those benefits cannot be included as income on your affidavit of support. Since you're using a joint sponsor it won't matter at all.

Your joint sponsor owing taxes won't be relevant unless the IRS has issued a lien against him. If the IRS has issued a lien then they'll usually deduct the full amount of the lien from his declared income when determining if his affidavit of support is sufficient.
