How long till you can work in the USA when you arrive. I'll be applying here in Sydney with my husband doing DCF for my spousal Visa.

Moving with 3 kids and probably only $20,000 behind us i want to get working as soon as i can. I've been offered a job by my BIL family who own a mobile home company, where they buy, sell and move mobile homes.

My DH is also going to be working for them, but i don't think i can work for a coumple of weeks due to not having my Social Security Number.

Is this correct?

When you arrive, you are immediately work authorized. Since you have a job, you can go in the next day.

If you apply for your Social Security card on your DS-230 (that's the visa application--recommended to tick the 'yes' box) then you can be hired and start working (and be paid) before you gets the actual card, or number. You may have to help BIL find the info on SSA.gov, but it is legal and not abnormal.

Of course, if you want a couple of weeks off, "lose" this post!

I recommend the following reads for anyone who is becoming a Permanent Resident (Green Card). They explain your rights and responsibilities with your new status (including the work and travel questions):

Yup! STewart started as soon as he found a job!! You can apply for your SS card immediatly. Of course our woman was an IDIOT and wouldn't let stewart apply until he had a green card but you CAN do it with the stamp you'll have and your visa in your passport!

Aussie DCF is the best :) Good luck

Finally finished with immigration in 2012!
