Dang that was QUICK!

PS Just wondering, when did you surrender your old passport? At the oath or when applying for the US passport?

It's even faster i. e same day if you have proof that you'll be traveling within 6 days as proof. You need a confirmed travel reservation.

I had an appointment, got in the Chicago Passport Agency around 8:40, was done by 9:30 and got my passport the same day at 1pm. Expedited request passport book only (no passport card) all for $195.

There is no mention of any previous/foreign passport!

Update my status... I am officially an US citizen as of today (8/23/12)

Thank all of you here at VJ for your help and guidance. It would be a very hard route to walk without VJ and the great community here to help me.

Anyway here's my experience at the LACC oath.

Mine was scheduled at 8:03 AM. Now if you live in LA, I suggest you give yourself AN HOUR of buffer time if you are attending the oath ceremony at the LACC. Reason being there are lots of traffic and the convention center is HUGE.

I arrived at the LACC around 7:50, it took me almost 15 minutes just to get a parking spot. What I suggest you to do next time it to PARK SOMEWHERE ELSE. Not only it's expensive here ($15 dollars) and it was a nightmare to get out (more about that later).

It was a brief walk to the South Hall entrance. However if you arrive late, prepare to stand in the line to get in. It took me a while to get in.

Once you are in, they will direct the guests to the left into Hall G, while the soon-to-be-citizens go straight and head for Hall H, where you will once again pick a line (70+ lines!) and register.

Show them the permeant resident card and your oath letter, they will then punch a hole or two, or none, sometimes swiss-cheese like, then assign you a number on the letter which you will be getting your certificate once the ceremony is over.

Next you follow the flow and be seated. They have divided the hall into multiple "blocks". These "blocks" are FIFO (First In First Out) and in the sequence they were filled. However doesn't matter when you arrive, you will spend about the same amount of time as the rest of us here.

I was seated around 8:45 towards the rear of the citizens seating, where they did borrowed some guests seating to fit all 4,513 new citizens in the morning ceremony.

Around 9:05 they announce the start of the ceremony. Followed by the judge stating the court is in session, stand and take the oath of allegiance, and the "motion is passed."

Now go pat yourself on the back, it's now official.

Followed by few speeches, thanks to those who are serving in the armed forces, video from the president, a music video and another oath and the singing of national anthem.

The ceremony lasted about half an hour.

Then that's where the fun starts... the guests are asked to leave the hall first, then the blocks of people are escorted in sequence where they were seated back into the lines earlier to pick up their certificates. By the time it got to my block it only took a little more than half hour. I was surprised how fast it went.

Back to why you should park somewhere else... the parking structure is a MESS! People are trying to back up and move but they can't since the traffic is backed up, joined by the afternoon ceremony traffic. I was stuck in the parking structure for almost an hour.

I was out by 11:00 AM.

Just got back from the post office after I filed for my passport. I suggest you do it on your own, the line they have at the LACC was ridiculously long.

Anyway the journey is now, adjourned. Thanks VJ and everybody here for your help. Best luck to those who are waiting.
