Ron, this is a piece of cake. I went to Kiev to pick up my then fiancee, just like your doing. Towards landing you will fill out the immigration/custom form on the plane. I landed at JFK. I asked the woman handling the lines which one should we go on and she said it did not really matter but use the US citizen line as it was faster. Once our turn came, I went first. Then Alena gave them her envelope, did a quick electronic fingerprint scan, then was asked to wait in a nice room. we went together of course. After about 10 minutes a woman came out with her passport and said welcome to the US. Got the bags, and left.

cake walk... you both will be fine. She will just have to go to secondary processing to have her package logged in .

If you come with her you can be present but as always they take people one at a time. It is really not difficult and nearly impossible to mess up. she cannot go the wrong way, she will be funneled to the passport control, hand over her passport and envelope and be out of there in 2-3 minutes.

but if you want to go just to make her feel better, then by all means do so.

Probably not. I have never heard of that for anyone from Ukraine. My wife got through faster than me.

We have a winner! As I said though, "probably not". :P Sometimes they collect biometrics at the POE (fingerprints and photo) sometimes not. At any rate, the POE is an easy process.

We just went thru POE at IAD (Washington Dulles), since I was with my fiancee, we went thru the Citizenship line. 5 minutes thru passport control, got the fingerprints. And then collected luggage and to the secondary screening probably another 15 minutes. This is the easieast process we've been through.
