Hello you guys!

I need some help! My brazilian passport will expire in 04/2013 and Brazil doesn't renew passports, you just get a new one.

I received my NOA-1 a month ago and I'm starting to get scared that my passport will be expired if it takes too long for the aproval.

What am I supposed to do? I read somewhere that you have to have a passport with at least 8 months to expire for the interview.

Please help!

I can, but will I have a problem with that? Cuz all my documents for the NOA1 were sent with my current passport number.

If I have a new passport number the documents wont match the passport i will have. I dont know what to do!

You will still have your old passport and the new one. You will have to start the renewal process a couple of months before the old one expires. I think they just stamp the old one cancelled and you get to keep it. I'll ask my wife when she gets home. She's from Brazil too.

I really don't think there is anything to worry about. You probably don't want to have to renew your passport as soon as you get to the US. I believe they want a passport with at least 6 months before expiration to issue the visa. I'm thinking back 4 or 5 years so I may be off a bit. What part of Brazil are you from, if you don't mind my asking?

much ado about nothing. stop worrying, you are not the first, nor will you be the last. it happens ALL the time. it does not cause a problem.

 As long as the information was correct at the time the petition was signed there is not a problem. You will need the passport information at the interview and having a new passport is important given how close it is to expiring. I would think more about what happens if you get the visa, travel to the USA, and then your passport expires before you get the EAD/AP or GC. How do you renew your passport in the USA? My wife heard that the Kazakhstani passport was changing and she needed to apply for a new one which she did while the petition was at CSC.--she still had several years left, but decided it was more important to have the new updated version than keeping her old passport The petition is more about the USC asking for a visa. Once approved it then switches to is the beneficiary eligible for a visa and can the USC petitioner support their intenting spouse. The change in passport was a nonissue for us.

I would renew your passport NOW.

Good luck,

Dave
