If you had to pick one, would you rather be at the interview, or go to the mate's country and come with them to the US for the first time??? not only it would be there first trip into the country for most of us, but from what I read those POE agents can be very tough, and if your fiance does not know the language well that can add to the problem??? so which one would you suggest???

I always say if you got like that fiancally by all means go but if not it is what it is. You can't go and on here its been proven many times that people haven't gone to their fiance's interview and still got approved I think its all about preparation. For me my funds are not long engough to purchase a ticket to go to Haiti on short notice than turn around 2 weeks later and purchase his ticket and I so we can go through POE. I had asked him what he preferred he preferred for me to go through the POE with him instead. But that's a personal choice. I say if you can go by all means go.

I am very fortunate that I will be able to do both but, if I had to chose between the 2, I would want to fly with her to the USA. I think that it depends on the person travelling, their English level. their other travel experiences. If they have a very good grasp of English, and have had experience with going thru other counties immigration, this would help. My finacee, has never travelled outside of her country.

I understand your dilemma! I have the same problem...should I go to interview or poe. He has never flown before! My fiance's only experience in traveling is going from Haiti to DR and back by bus or car. I think if I couldn't do both I would definitely like to be at the interview to support him and hope God makes a way for me to return for his departure.

I did both

We were blessed and his interview/visa was on Monday, so we could buy his ticket for Saturday. Also, husband's mother really appreciated that I made the effort to come down and say good bye to them as well.

I don't think I was 'needed' at the interview, but all they asked us for was photos. They obviously spoke Spanish. Plus, I would have had to send all of the evidence/interview stuff to him at least a month in advance to be safe, not sure what the mail situation is like for you.

My husband speaks English ok, but not when he's nervous! At POE Atl, he didn't even understand when the girl asked for his right hand fingerprints (he put his other hand up). They were calling interpreters left and right, but I interpreted for my husband.

He was so nervous and his hands were so clammy that he lost his wedding ring in the airport :bonk:

Also had to do his (one) ink fingerprint over because he messed it up!

Also, the look on his face walking off the plane into the cold Ohio air, priceless

However, looking back, I would have liked a couple extra days off work to spend together here. Help him get unpacked, go grocery shopping, snuggle time etc.

I think it matters most what will make your spouse most comfortable.

I'm not sure if you're aware or not, but the petitioner is required to be at the interview in DR. The petitioner is considered primary evidence of the relationship. Visas are denied if the petitioner is not present.

I was fortunate to be able to do both, but if I had a choice I would have chosen POE only. My husband had never flown before and I wanted to experience that with him for the first time. We had a connecting flight and it's a good thing I was there because he would have missed it since he had no clue what to do in an airport. Also, he doesn't speak English, so I wanted to avoid any issues with the language barrier.

I say if you're not required at the interview, then save that money for other things.

Just so you know, there are different ones from Haiti that have needed the second interview since their fiancee was not at the first one. I think it depends a lot on your case and the CO. Fortunately, I was not asked to go down for a second interview, but I think it definitely helped our case that we had known each other for over 10 years, even though we had only been in a relationship for the past 1 1/2 years. For us, it took 1 week to receive the visa, so depending on how much vacation time you can take, it might be worth it for you to be there for 2 weeks in hopes that you are able to get the visa in that time and book his/her ticket to coincide with your return flight. I definitely would not buy his/her ticket until you have the visa in hand, though.
