Hi everyone, quick question... I am a USC getting living in the UK and getting ready to submit the I-130 for my husband. Since we are living abroad, we have to submit it to the Chicago Lockbox, as I'm not eligible for DCF here. There seems to be contradictory information regarding how to assemble the I-130 when sending it to Chicago lockbox. Some places say you need to use an acco fastener, other places (like the guide here on VJ) says not to use acco fasteners when sending anything to Chicago but to use paperclips instead.

I know this is a totally pedantic question, but does anyone know the correct assembly instructions for sending the I-130 to Chicago? Does it really matter? I would just be so frustrated if our petition was rejected for such a silly reason as the fastening of it! But with my luck, this would be my stumbling block...

Thanks for your help! I'm totally new at this, but this website has been a saving grace for us already!

When I submitted my I-130, I had everything soooo organized with dividers, paper clips sub-dividing docs, and a acco (big clamp thingy) holding it all together. The lady behind the window actually seemed a little ticked off that she had to remove all that stuff and even asked me if I was an engineer.

So I'm thinking only one big clip to hold everything in place will suffice and also prevent anything from falling when removed from the envelope. Nowhere in the official US government instructions does it say to use anything specific.

Now keep in mind I did a DCF in person, but I still think the same applies if you mail it in. Of course others will have their own opinion and experiences.

Just assemble in the order that the guides suggest and paperclip papers that go together. Your cover letter should have the sequence of the attachments. They will use that as a checklist to ensure all required docs are there. Keep it simple. They are only going to take it all apart anyway and sort it according to how they want. They have their own system. Don't make it any more difficult.
