my husband's friend has sponsered his parents from india on an immigrant petition. he has asked my husband to fill the i864 for them as he does not meet the requirements. my husband has agreed to it but we are worried on how liable we r for his parents. his parents are elderly and will we be liable for any hospital charges if something were to happen to them? we trust our friend and we know his parents will not become public charge but our main concern is hospital bills....cause his mother does have health issues. plz advice on what extent will we be liable for?

You won't be liable for hospital bills directly, only if they rely on a means tested benefit- I believe medicaid may fall into that, not sure. If your friend's parents are beyond retirement age, they may well be asked to provide proof of health insurance at the visa interview, your friend should be prepared for that. How will he support their medical care if he cannot even fill the I-864 by himself?

Me: Irish/ Swiss citizen, and now naturalised US citizen. Husband: USC; twin babies born Feb 08 in Ireland and a daughter in Feb 2010 in Arkansas who are all joint Irish/ USC. Did DCF (IR1) in 6 weeks via the Dublin, Ireland embassy and now living in Arkansas.
