Straight up in my medical I was asked if i had ever been prescribed any drugs by a Dr.

Good to know they can't dig up that info.

I think the line between not declaring something and lieing is pretty thin to be honest.

What? Again, no-one is saying don't declare something. You give the information they request because that is what they want. If you are particularly concerned and feel something should be declared that they have not asked for, then go ahead.

No-one here is ever going to advocate lying. We are not advocating wilfully distorting the truth.

If the doctor asks for the answers to A, B, C and D then you provide the answers to A, B, C and D only and you answer them truthfully and factually.

This isn't a doctors consultation! This is a medical examination where they are looking for specific information so that they can tick a box on a DS-2053 form. There isn't an option to tick 'maybe' or 'patient thinks that...'. The questions are 'Yes' and 'No'.

If you feel something is significant enough that it should be declared when they have not asked about it, then of course you should do it. Never, ever lie.

Volunteering unnecessary information is a waste of everyones time. The fact remains that the question is not "do you think you had issues with depression?", the question is "Have you ever been diagnosed with depression?" so you provide a factual answer only. Nich-Nick was given anti depressants, but not diagnosed in the same way I've been given ear-drops but never diagnosed with otitis externa, or that I've been prescribed asthma inhalers but don't have asthma. I had a chest infection and I was given an asthma inhaler to alleviate the symptoms. Therefore, I ticked 'no' on the box to having asthma.

Robert, sometimes you just don't comprehend. A doctor will not ask every medication you have ever taken in your life. Holy cow! Are you serious?. A typical question is "what medications are you taking? That means present tense. Some people may take blood thinners, beta-blockers, insulin, anti-inflammatories, or whatever each day. I don't take anything either and usually answer multi-vitamin and sometimes Tylenol.

Sometimes people get hit with something incredibly difficult...death, divorce, Anna Lisa, job lay-off, terminal cancer. Maybe they need a couple of weeks of meds to stop crying long enough to deal with it. Does that mean they are clinically depressed, mentally ill, suicidal, or a threat to others?? There is a difference from months on drugs and being really sad for two weeks. Of course if they said point blank have you ever been prescribed Valium, I would say yes--four pills in 19xx, and 1 pill in 20xx one hour before day surgery to carve my face up. But if I was asked have I ever suffered from depression, I would say no.

I wish we had said no. I completely forgot my fiance had ever taken anti-depressants because it had been so brief. I'm not sure how long it will end up delaying us, but there will certainly be a delay. I would say that pretty much every person in the world has suffered from depression at some point, myself included. However, both my fiance and I have been perfectly capable of functioning and never were or are a threat to others. In short, I would've had him mention only current medications.

Hi all, My fiance is in the process of preparing packet 3 in Scotland and I am trying to sort out everything out for the i134. I have a few questions about the i134 though.

My fiancee and I traveled and worked abroad for a year and a half after I graduated college (we met a year before I graduated). Once we returned I got a full time job in August and we applied for the k1. I worked full time until June (earning enough to qualify as his sponsor). I then took a month and a half to visit him and then returned to the US and began a new full time job in mid August. Saying this, my most recent tax returns only have a couple of months of pay, and because I was out of the country I do not have any for the years before. I do have a contract from both my old job and my new one stating my income, as well as pay slips for my old job. I haven't received a pay check for my new job and won't for a while.

I heard tax returns were the main supporting documents they will look at in London. Would my contracts be sufficient? Or should I get a co sponsor? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Inadvertent duplicate post has been removed.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

That's not correct. They will accept anything that clearly shows income or assets. Just figure out how you can best convince them you are currently employed with adequate income.

You don't have to but I would personally say to wait until it has to make sure no paperwork gets missed.

When you pay, you get sent the receipt by email so you can wait at least a little if you want.

I'm glad that someone asked this question as I don't have my fiances tax return. The supporting docs that I have are a signed letter from his employer stating his earnings and three recent pay stubs. On the affidavit it actually says something along the lines of 'If self-employed a tax return is enclosed'... Since my fiancé isn't self-employed I figured his was an unnecessary extra. I hope this to be the case!

Do I have to wait until my case is at the embassy to ring and pay the visa fee?

Great question, and the one i was about to ask!

I have had the packet 3 request sent to my house and have now sent all that stuff away. So i guess i can go ahead and call and pay now.

I'm happy with the whole process but called the Embassy today(wow expensive). As far as im concerned i have my medical next then send away my cover letter and ds2001, but he kept going on about some on line application. Not sure if he was just using different terms compared to what is used on here, but it threw me off a bit.

Anyone got an idea what he is talking about?

Not sure what he was talking about. Why did you call and what did you ask? Maybe making a reference that you get your forms online. Or he was confused thinking you were asking about a tourist visa which has on online application http://london.usembassy.gov/ds_160_tourism.html

You don't do that one.

We had not received the packet 3 info sheet. So we called to see what was going on and they said they sent it a month back. Confirmed the address but for some reason it never turned up. So luckily after taking the advice off here i had everything good to go and posted it straight after the chat.

As you say he must have got confused but did not want to start arguing with him when he is the subject matter expert......i think, maybe i just got the office cleaner who was walking past and picked up the phone.
