I-130 Petition from Overseas -- is it quicker?

I received an e-mail that my I-130 forms were received on January 22 and sent to the California office for review.

I filed from Japan. I've seen some posts that filing from overseas reduces the wait time. Is this true?

I will be returning to the US in April. Do I need to notify somewhere that I've changed my address if it still hasn't completed processing by April?

1-18-2012 - I-130 Sent (from Japan to Chicago Lockbox)

1-22-2012 - I-130 Received in Chicago

2-3-2012 - Received NOA1 in Japan

2-7-2012- I-130 Approved! (so fast!!)

Yes it is true.

If the situation doesn't change, your petition should be approved before the end of February, and the case should be with the NVC by the time you go back. Then you would just need to notify the NVC.

We were in the exact same case, and my husband called the NVC to give his new address in the US, and that's it.

EDIT: I forgot there was a month named March :bonk:

So if everything goes well, you should be past NVC in April, probably waiting for an interview in Tokyo. Then I'm not too sure who you would call to notify the change of address...

Thank you for the info. :)

While I wait, do you have any advice for what documents and things I should prepare for the next step in getting my husband his IR1/CR1 visa?
