He will fly Etihad Airways; I figured he is fling through Abu Dhabi so no transit visa issues...it's the simplest route.

aha, and what was the cost? I was thinking to have my SO fly Easy Jet to Paris, then Air France or something because is about $450 direct from Paris to Chicago.

It was very reasonable around $500...I did not want to do the european lay over because I wasn't sure if transit visa was needed. In Dubai the layover is only 1.5 hours so transit visa wasn't needed.

This is the one my fiance will do: from Cairo to Abu to NY in 2 weeks.

Congrats!

Congratulations to you both!! How long did it take for him to get the exemption letter, was it issued the same day and what did he have to take with him document wise? I am assuming this can't be done until he receives his passport and visa back from embassy, but just trying to get prepared as he will have to do the same thing.

So I have confirmed my husbands flight for next week:) He recieved the military exempation letter to fly out of the country. Very excited and can't wait to see him soon. congrats and good luck to everyone.

They accually gave him a hard time at the begining. When he went the first time with the documents they told him come back in couple weeks and we will see if we can do anything for you...So he went back again after a week, showed them all the documents again and was able to get the paper issued the same day. He had to show visa in the passport. (this is for the premission to fly out of the country)

Thanks everyone for the congrats! Can't wait he will be here in few days...and the first thing we will do is head down to the SOCIAL SECURITY office lol!...I hope he will get social # issued quickly so we can get an ID, drivers license for him and most important a JOB! I would hate for my husband to sitting around and get bored at home. It's winter and I don't really have many house project I can give him. Plus i will be working everyday...It will be difficult month or two im sure but once he gets use to being here, it will be ok:) Patience, patience, patience:) (F)

Thanks for the reply. I figured it probably wouldn't be a piece of cake, especially nowadays. Just hoping they won't try and call on him to do any reserve service first.
