TAX RETURNS

This question my be asked before but I get paranoid. I'm just wondering if it is ok to just send Form 1040 (I did for the past 3 years), copies of bank statements, mortgages and birth cert. of children and NOT send the IRS transcripts since I don't have it? In the document checklist it says "Tax returns, bank accounts, leases, mortgages, birth cert of children, OR IRS certified copies of tax returns that you both filed for the past 3 years OR IRS tax return transcripts for the past 3 years." I'm thinking I have all the documents for the option 1 so is it ok? Thanks!

If you want the transcripts you can order them online for free from the IRS website. Took about a week to get them in the mail. If your sending the actual tax return you need all pages including W2 and any 1099s etc.

My tax return for last year was over 40 pages. Much easier to send the transcripts. You can order them online to be mailed to you and in the time you read this post you can be done with one year, honest.

That is exactly what I did. I never had any problems with it either. Thing is, you can send in all 40 pages of your return but what would they really get? It doesn't show anything that is important to them and will just make a huge pile, so I'd think you will be ok with that.

Transcripts make it easy to prove you actually paid your taxes, one of the requirements.

I keep seeing this by people on this forum but I never ever have read this on any of the forms/documents/etc from USCIS. Where did they state that you have to have paid your taxes? Besides, if you have been without job and didn't have any income, you cannot even pay taxes, just to name something. The sole reason is to verify your address and such, USCIS is not concerned with you paying all taxes or not, that is for the IRS. Do you honestly think USCIS is performing an audit? If you read carefully, you see you have to give them a whole bunch of documents to verify your address, OR simply send tax transcripts. It has nothing to do with you actually paying your taxes.

I agree with the two other posters. Transcripts are the way to go, and are actually preferred by USCIS. The IRS will even fax them to you if you call the automated number. But seriously, it only takes a week to get them in the mail after requesting them via the IRS web site.

If you want the transcripts you can order them online for free from the IRS website. Took about a week to get them in the mail. If your sending the actual tax return you need all pages including W2 and any 1099s etc.

I sent in the transcripts, and ordered another set for the interview.

The AO said, "I already have your tax returns, so I won't be needing those."

He did take my driver's license, and told me to cool my heels while he interviewed the wife.

That's fine BUT I certainly won't encourage to anyone to send originals unless USCIS is asking to send them. So, it's up to the OP. I have never sent originals with any of my petitions/applications in my almost 5 years of dealing with USCIS.
