Hi everyone,

I am here for a friend who doesn't speak English. She filed I-485 and I-130 (among others) and they were returned for some mistakes she made (for instance, she put her I-94 no. under Alien Registration Number, etc.).

Now, does she need to refill the forms, or can simply cross-out/white-out what's wrong and re-write?

I was going to suggest to her to redo the forms, but I see some numbers on the side of the pages, like they were scanned or similar, so I wonder if sending new forms would mix up anything.

Thanks,

I-130 for my mom

Suggest to send in new, virgin, no-white-out used, forms.

Also suggest she have another human, a native english speaker, check all, prior; matching up all blocks in the instructions with all blocks in the forms.

Whilst she's at it - PRACTICE filling out the forms. A LOT! This is important stuff - should be her focus on all of her spare time this week and upcoming weekend. PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!! It's only paper, until she sends it off - then it becomes the LIFE CHANGING CASEFILE.

Good Luck to her.

Sometimes my language usage seems confusing - please feel free to 'read it twice', just in case !

Never ever alter a document that has already been sent to the government. If there are questions about the returned forms, she will not be able to produce an unaltered original if she uses whiteout/cross-out.

Send in a new form.

Suggest sending a new filled form. Don't worry about what you seen on the form. And make sure everything is double or even triple checked against the instructions. This is very important step... Otherwise it may cause much more time for her later to refile or correct any mistakes. If anything unclear, don't make assumptions. Post it here or ask experienced lawyer... Making assumptions are common mistakes during immigration process.
